Women In Prison Advocacy Network
Women's Justice Network (WJN), formerly known as the Women in Prison Advocacy Network (WIPAN), is an incorporated not-for-profit charity based in Sydney, Australia, focused on advocacy around issues affecting female prisoners. History WIPAN was founded in 2008 by Kat Armstrong, Carol Berry, Marissa Sandler and Nicki Petrou, and is managed by a volunteer Management Committee, (The Board). WIPAN's co-founder Kat Armstrong was the organisation’s volunteer Director/CEO from early 2008 to January 2016. The organisation expanded in 2014, thanks to a grant from the Department of Family and Community Services (NSW), and from early 2016, a new CEO, mentoring coordinator and housing and family coordinator were all able to be employed. The Australian Institute of Criminology (AIC) is Australia's national research and knowledge centre on crime and criminal justice. The Institute seeks to promote justice and reduce crime by undertaking and communicating evidence-based research to inform policy and practice. Debbie Kilroy (born 1961), née Deborah Harding, is an Australian human rights activist and prison reformer. She is known for having founded Sisters Inside, an independent community organisation based in Queensland, Australia, that advocates for the human rights of women and girls in the criminal legal system. She is a qualified lawyer, who in 2007 was the first person with serious convictions to be allowed to practise law by the Supreme Court of Queensland. The Myer Foundation is a major Australian philanthropic organisation. History The Sidney Myer Charitable Trust was established by the will of Sidney Myer, who died in 1934, leaving a portion of his estate for the benefit of the community. Myer's will was proved at £922,000.
