Wolfgang Pagenstecher
Wolfgang Pagenstecher (March 16, 1880 – December 26, 1953) was a German painter and heraldist. He was born in Elberfeld and died in Düsseldorf. Biography Pagenstecher was born in Elberfeld, German Empire, on March 16, 1880, as the third son of Friedrich August Pagenstecher and Anna Elisabeth von Hurter. In 1898, he began studying at Kunstakademie Düsseldorf, with Ernst and Fritz Roeber, Peter Janssen, and Willy Spatz as his professors. During his time there he became an assistant before leaving to Florence in 1909. He spent a year there before traveling to the cities of Dresden, Paris, and Munich. At the outbreak of World War I, in 1914, Pagenstecher joined the Imperial German Army reaching the rank of lieutenant. During the war he was seriously injured and spent time in captivity at Bordeaux. Heraldry is a discipline relating to the design, display and study of armorial bearings (known as armory), as well as related disciplines, such as vexillology, together with the study of ceremony, rank and pedigree. Hilden
Hilden is a town in the German state of North Rhine-Westphalia. It is situated in the District of Mettmann, west of Solingen and east of Düsseldorf on the right side of the Rhine. It is a middle sized industrial town with a forest and numerous attractions. The Mayor is Claus Pommer, who took office in 2020. Wülfrath
Wülfrath is a town in the district of Mettmann (district), in North Rhine-Westphalia, Germany. Geography The town is situated on the mountain spurs of the Bergische Land, between the Rhine, Ruhr and Wupper rivers. It is located in the central part of the Berg region, approx. 12 km northeast of Düsseldorf. The old town centre lies in the small valley of the Angerbach, a brook which rises nearby and flows through the town. The newer parts of the town are built on the valley slopes. Rheinisch-Bergischer Kreis
The Rheinisch-Bergische Kreis is a Kreis (district) in the Cologne Bonn Region of North Rhine-Westphalia, Germany. Neighboring districts are Kreis Mettman, Oberbergischer Kreis and Rhein-Sieg, and the district-free cities Cologne, Leverkusen, Solingen and Remscheid. History The area of the ''Bergisches Land'' belonged to the earldom Berg for most of medieval times, and still gives the district its name. In 1816 after the whole Rhineland area did come to Prussia the districts of Wipperfürth, Mülheim, Lennep, Opladen and Solingen were created on the area now covered by the district.
