Wives (band)
Wives was an American hardcore punk/noise rock trio from Los Angeles consisting of guitarist Randy Randall, bassist/vocalist Dean Spunt, and drummer Jeremy Villalobos. In the three years the band were together, they released a self-titled 7-inch on Post Present Medium, as well as a split 7-inch with K.I.T on Post Present Medium. In September 2004 the band released their first full-length LP, ''Erect the Youth Problem'', on Cold Sweat Records. In June 2005, the band released a split 12-inch with Moving Units, also on Post Present Medium. In November 2005, following a European tour the band split; a friend, Roy, replaced Jeremy on drums finishing the last leg of the tour with them, playing their farewell show on November 20 at the Highbury Buffalo Bar, London, England. Spunt and Randall reunited to perform the "final" Wives set for the independent film 40 Bands/80 Minutes! which was filmed on March 6, 2006, in Hollywood, CA. A split album (or split) is a music album that includes tracks by two or more separate artists. There are also singles and EPs of the same variety, which are often called "split singles" and "split EPs" respectively. ''40 Bands 80 Minutes!'' is a 2006 American rockumentary about the Los Angeles underground music scene in 2006 directed by Sean Carnage. In the style of ''Urgh! A Music War'', ''40 Bands 80 Minutes!'' is a series of punk and experimental musical performances and performance art pieces, with minimal narration. The film was conceived as a way to systematically document the music of the entire L.A. underground music scene. On March 6, 2020, ''40 Bands 80 Minutes!'' was reissued with remastered sound and picture. Development All of the performances in ''40 Bands 80 Minutes!'' were filmed on March 6, 2006, at all-ages performance space Il Corral in Hollywood, CA. Buffalo Bar
The Buffalo Bar was a music and arts venue located at 259 Upper Street, Highbury Corner, Islington, from 2000 until 2014. History The venue was situated beneath The Famous Cock Tavern, adjacent to Highbury and Islington tube station, Highbury & Islington station. The basement at 259 Upper Street had previously been a branch of Po Na Na nightclub, and before that, Club Down Under. Hardcore punk (also known as simply hardcore) is a punk rock music genre and subculture that originated in the late 1970s. It is generally faster, harder, and more aggressive than other forms of punk rock.
