The Wisden Group was a group of companies formed by John Wisden & Co Ltd, publishers of ''Wisden Cricketers' Almanack''. As well as John Wisden & Co, the group included the magazine ''The Wisden Cricketer'', Cricinfo – the world's highest traffic cricket website – and the Hawk-Eye computerised ball-tracking system, which is used by the media in cricket, tennis and other sports. The group also owned '' The Oldie'', a general interest British magazine aimed at older readers. John Wisden (5 September 1826 – 5 April 1884) was an English cricketer who played 187 first-class cricket matches for three English county cricket teams, Kent, Middlesex and Sussex. His father, William, was a builder. He attended Brighton's Middle Street School (formerly the Royal Union School, founded as a charity school in 1805). ''Wisden Cricketers' Almanack'', or simply ''Wisden'', colloquially the Bible of Cricket, is a cricket reference book published annually in the United Kingdom. The description "bible of cricket" was first used in the 1930s by Alec Waugh in a review for the '' London Mercury''. ''The Wisden Cricketer'' was the world's best-selling monthly cricket magazine. It was created in 2003 by a merger between ''The Cricketer'' magazine and ''Wisden Cricket Monthly''. It is now no longer connected to Wisden and is called ''The Cricketer''. The magazine covers English professional cricket in depth and also carries reports on all Test Matches and one-day international cricket played around the world, together with a small amount of coverage of domestic cricket outside the United Kingdom. Hawk-Eye
Hawk-Eye is a computer vision system used in numerous sports such as cricket, tennis, Gaelic football, badminton, hurling, rugby union, association football and volleyball, to visually track the trajectory of the ball and display a profile of its statistically most likely path as a moving image. The onscreen representation of the trajectory results is called Shot Spot. The Sony-owned Hawk-Eye system was developed in the United Kingdom by Paul Hawkins. The system was originally implemented in 2000 for television purposes in cricket. The system works via six (sometimes seven) high-performance cameras, normally positioned on the underside of the stadium roof, which track the ball from different angles.
