The 35th Assembly District of Wisconsin is one of 99 districts in the Wisconsin State Assembly. Located in northern Wisconsin, the district comprises all of Lincoln and Langlade counties, and parts of northern Oconto County, northwest Shawano County, southern Oneida County, and northern Marathon County. It includes the cities of Antigo, Merrill, and Tomahawk, and the villages of Aniwa, Birnamwood, Eland, and Mattoon. It also contains the Council Grounds State Park and about a quarter of the Nicolet National Forest. The district is represented by Republican Calvin Callahan, since January 2021. Eland, Wisconsin
Eland (formerly Eland Junction) is a village in Shawano County, Wisconsin, in the United States. The population was 202 at the 2010 census. History Eland was originally called Eland Junction, and under the latter name was platted by the railroad in 1888. It was named after the eland, a type of African antelope. Virgil Roberts
Virgil Roberts (April 13, 1922 – April 6, 2011) was an American politician, train dispatcher, and farmer who served as a member of the Wisconsin State Assembly. Early life Born in Mindoro, Wisconsin, Roberts was rejected for military service during World War II because of a heart defect. Career Roberts became interested in public service after taking a course at Winona State University. He later served on the local school board. Roberts worked as a train dispatcher and farmer. Later, Roberts served as a bank director. From 1971 to 1985 and 1987 to 1993, Roberts served as a member of the Wisconsin State Assembly. He was an unsuccessful nominee for the Wisconsin State Senate in the 1984 election. Roberts was a Democrat. Sheehan Donoghue
Julia Sheehan Donoghue (born December 13, 1943) is a retired American lawyer and Republican politician from Merrill, Wisconsin. She was a member of the Wisconsin State Assembly for six terms, from 1973 through 1985. She later served more than a decade as a division head at the Wisconsin Department of Workforce Development. She is a granddaughter of Illinois politician and judge Francis E. Donoghue, and a descendant of Merrill pioneer Leonard Niles Anson. Biography Donoghue was born on December 13, 1943, in Hamilton, Ohio. Her parents were natives of Merrill, Wisconsin, and returned there shortly after her birth. A tomahawk is a type of single-handed axe used by the many Indigenous peoples and nations of North America. It traditionally resembles a hatchet with a straight shaft. In pre-colonial times the head was made of stone, bone, or antler, and European settlers later introduced heads of iron and steel.
