Wisconsin Assembly, District 36
The 36th Assembly District of Wisconsin is one of 99 districts in the Wisconsin State Assembly. Located in northern Wisconsin, the district comprises all Florence, Forest, and Menominee counties, as well as most of Marinette County, central Oconto County, and parts of northern Shawano County. It includes the cities of Crandon, Gillett, Oconto Falls, and Niagara, and the villages of Cecil, Crivitz, Lena, Suring, and Wausaukee. It also contains the Forest County Potawatomi Community, the Sokaogon Chippewa Community, the Menominee Indian Reservation, and the Stockbridge–Munsee Community, and contains most of the Nicolet National Forest, including the Headwaters Wilderness. Crivitz, Wisconsin
Crivitz is a village in Marinette County, Wisconsin, United States. The population was 984 at the 2010 census. It is part of the Marinette, WI– MI Micropolitan Statistical Area. History Crivitz was surveyed and plotted in the summer of 1883. This work was filed with the Register of Deeds in Marinette County on 10 September 1883 by German immigrant Frederick John Bartels,http://www.villageofcrivitz.com who named the settlement after his home town of Crivitz, Germany. The demographic character of the Crivitz area was shaped significantly after a typhoid epidemic in 1894, which shut down the sawmills. Hieronymus Zech (1849–1932), a mill operator from Chilton, took over operation of the inactive mills and promoted land sales to Polish immigrants, many of whom relocated from Milwaukee and Chicago. Headwaters Wilderness
The Headwaters Wilderness is a wilderness area located within the Nicolet unit of the Chequamegon-Nicolet National Forest in northeastern Wisconsin. It is the largest federally designated wilderness area on Wisconsin's mainland. The wilderness area contains the headwaters of the Pine River, a legally protected wild river and a tributary of the Menominee River. The landscape is primarily forested swampland and bogs; the generally flat terrain is covered by pine forest, with some features of northern hardwood forests. The northern section of the wilderness area contains Kimball Creek, which feeds into the Pine River. Chequamegon–Nicolet National Forest
The Chequamegon–Nicolet National Forest (; the ''q'' is silent) is a U.S. National Forest in northern Wisconsin in the United States. Due to logging in the early part of the 20th century, very little old growth forest remains. Some of the trees that grow there today were planted by the Civilian Conservation Corps in the 1930s. The national forest lands contain trees and vegetation corresponding to the North Woods Ecoregion that is prevalent throughout the upper Great Lakes region. Legally two separate national forests—the Chequamegon National Forest and the Nicolet National Forest—the areas were established by presidential proclamations in 1933 and have been managed as one unit since 1998. The Stockbridge–Munsee Community also known as the Mohican Nation Stockbridge–Munsee Band is a federally recognized Native American tribe formed in the late eighteenth century from communities of so-called "praying Indians" (or Moravian Indians), descended from Christianized members of two distinct groups: Mohicans and Wappinger from the praying town of Stockbridge, Massachusetts, and Munsees, from the area where present-day New York, Pennsylvania and New Jersey meet. Menominee Indian Reservation
The Menominee Indian Reservation is an Indian reservation located in northeastern Wisconsin held in trust by the United States for the Menominee Tribe of Wisconsin. It is the largest Indian reservation east of the Mississippi River. In the Menominee language, it is called ''Omāēqnomenēw-Otāēskonenan'', "Menominee Thing Set Apart", or alternatively ''omǣqnomenēw-ahkīheh'', "in the Menominee Country". Sokaogon Chippewa Community
The Sokaogon Chippewa Community, or the Mole Lake Band of Lake Superior Chippewa, is a federally recognized tribe of the Lake Superior Chippewa, many of whom reside on the Mole Lake Indian Reservation, located southwest of the city of Crandon, in the Town of Nashville, Forest County, Wisconsin. The reservation is located partly in the community of Mole Lake, Wisconsin. According to the U.S. Census Bureau, the Mole Lake Indian Reservation was in 2020. The band also had of off-reservation trust land. Including the community's additional fee land, the Sokaogon Chippewa Community managed a total of as of 2010. Forest County Potawatomi Community
The Forest County Potawatomi Community ( pot, Ksenyaniyek) is a federally recognized tribe of Potawatomi people with approximately 1,400 members as of 2010. The community is based on the Forest County Potawatomi Indian Reservation, which consists of numerous non-contiguous plots of land in southern Forest County and northern Oconto County, Wisconsin, United States.
