Wisch (Gelderland)
Wisch is a former municipality in the Dutch province of Gelderland. The municipality was created in 1818, in a merger of Terborg and Varsseveld, and existed until 2005, when it became a part of the new municipality of Oude IJsselstreek. Gelderland
Gelderland (), also known as Guelders () in English, is a province of the Netherlands, occupying the centre-east of the country. With a total area of of which is water, it is the largest province of the Netherlands by land area, and second by total area. Terborg
Terborg is a small city in the Dutch province of Gelderland, in the Achterhoek region in the east of the Netherlands. It is located in the municipality of Oude IJsselstreek. The city lies about 7 km southeast of Doetinchem. The population is about 4600 inhabitants. Terborg is situated on the river the Oude IJssel. In the centre of the little city lies Castle Wisch, founded in the 13th century (hence the name "Terborg" which means "by the castle"). In the southeast of the city, near Silvolde lies a small nature reserve called the Paasberg ("Easter Mountain"). Terborg has a train station on the train route Arnhem - Winterswijk, and trains call here twice every hour. Terborg received city rights in 1419. The patron saint of the city is Saint George. Varsseveld
Varsseveld is a town in the Netherlands, located in the Dutch municipality of Oude IJsselstreek. History Middle Ages At the start of the twelfth century, Varsseveld was part of the County of Lohn, a county within the Holy Roman Empire with its seat in Stadtlohn, nowadays Germany. Count Godschalk I of Lohn's son Goldschalk built an estate in the village. In 2009, during the reconstruction of the village core, archeologists found out that the village probably had a town canal at that time, similar to that of neighbouring estates and towns such as Bredevoort. After the Battle for Bredevoort between 1326 and 1326, the village was conquered by Reginald II, Duke of Guelders and became under influence of the Duchy of Guelders. In 1723, a fire hit the village, burning down all the buildings, including the church. Oude IJsselstreek () is a municipality in the eastern Netherlands. It was established on 1 January 2005 through a merger of the former municipalities Gendringen and Wisch. Geography and population centres The municipality belongs to the transition area between the rivers in the south, coming from Germany (Rhine and Issel), and the sandy soils of the Eastern Netherlands. Bontebrug is a village in the municipality of Oude IJsselstreek in the Dutch province of Gelderland. It's on the eastern bank of the river Oude IJssel south of Silvolde. Sinderen
Sinderen is a village in the municipality of Oude IJsselstreek in the Dutch province of Gelderland. It is situated at the meeting of three roads, to Varsseveld (north), Dinxperlo (south) and Gendringen (south west), and was on the border of the former municipalities of Gendringen and Wisch. There used to be a castle in Sinderen. The 12th-century survives. The meadow in front of the farm "D'n Huusboer" is surrounded by what was the castle moat, and the remains of underground vaults from the castle can also be found there.
