Wintopia
''Wintopia'' is a Canadian documentary film, directed by Mira Burt-Wintonick and released in 2019. Originally conceived as an attempt to complete ''Utopia'', an unfinished documentary film her father, Peter Wintonick, was working on at the time of his death in 2013, the film instead evolved into a personal essay on her relationship with him. The film premiered in November 2019 at the International Documentary Film Festival Amsterdam. It screened at Canadian and international documentary film festivals in 2020, before being released to digital streaming platforms in 2021. 23rd Quebec Cinema Awards
The 23rd Quebec Cinema Awards were held on June 6, 2021, to honour achievements in the Cinema of Quebec in 2020. A live gala was hosted by actress Geneviève Schmidt; due to the COVID-19 pandemic in Canada, however, it was staged differently than a traditional award gala, with nominees present in the theatre but seated in a way that maintained social distancing requirements. The awards were initially numbered as the 22nd Quebec Cinema Awards gala, despite being the 23rd time the awards have been presented overall, as the presentation of the 2020 awards was done by livestream instead of a traditional award ceremony; however, the awards in 2022 were numbered as the 24th Quebec Cinema Awards instead of the 23rd, indicating that the 2021 awards are now considered the 23rd. Mira Burt-Wintonick
Mira Burt-Wintonick (born July 8, 1984) is a Canadian radio and film producer best known for her audio pieces and work on the CBC radio program ''WireTap''. Trained as a classical musician, Burt-Wintonick pursued a Communications degree from Concordia University in Montreal where she currently resides. Notably, in 2006 Burt-Wintonick was chosen Best New Artist at the Third Coast Festival for her radio essay ''Muriel's Message''. Peter Wintonick
Peter Kenneth Wintonick (June 10, 1953 – November 18, 2013) was a Canadian independent documentary filmmaker based in Montreal. A winner of the 2006 Governor General's Award in Visual and Media Arts, former Thinker in Residence for the Premier of South Australia, prolific award-winning filmmaker, he was one of Canada's best known international documentarians. Biography Born in Trenton, Ontario in 1953, Wintonick was the son of John Wintonick and Norma Latham. He was of Ukrainian descent. He founded Necessary Illusions Productions with Mark Achbar, and subsequently ran it with Francis Miquet. Wintonick was a co-founder of DocAgora, an event inserted into various film festivals showcasing cutting-edge digital strategies. He co-directed, with his daughter, Mira Burt-Wintonick, the 2009 documentary ''PilgrIMAGE'', a film about documentary filmmaking. Wintonick died of cholangiocarcinoma on November 18, 2013, aged 60.
