Academy (English School)
An academy school in England is a state-funded school which is directly funded by the Department for Education and independent of local authority control. Winterton, Lincolnshire
Winterton is a town in North Lincolnshire, England, north-east of Scunthorpe. The 2021 census found 4,765 inhabitants living in the town. Winterton is located near the banks of the Humber and is south-west of the Humber Bridge which can be seen from many parts of the town. As of 2022, the mayor of Winterton is Marilynne Harrison. History Winterton has a history going back to Roman times and several large mosaic floors and other Roman remains have been found there. In October 1968, during road-widening works on the A1077, workers found a massive stone coffin containing a skeleton later identified as being that of a young woman aged between 20 and 25 years of age, who stood tall (the so-called Winterton Lady). The Business and Technology Education Council (BTEC) is a provider of secondary school leaving qualifications and further education qualifications in England, Wales and Northern Ireland. Whilst the T in BTEC previously stood for Technical, according to the DFE (2016) it now stands for Technology. BTECs originated in 1984 and were awarded by Edexcel from 1996. The St Lawrence Academy (formerly High Ridge School) is a coeducational Church of England secondary school with academy status, in Scunthorpe, North Lincolnshire, England.
