Winston Adams
Winston Adams (born 1940) is a South African Scout leader who has held regional and international leadership positions in the World Scout Bureau's Africa Scout Region. Scouting career Adams joined 5th Cape Town Cub Pack in District Six in Cape Town when he was 9 years old in 1949. He was a professional Scout for 42 years, initially with Scouts South Africa, where he served as Area Secretary for the Cape Western Area. In 1990 the World Organization of the Scout Movement (WOSM) assigned him to Namibia for 6 months to set up the Scouts of Namibia national Scout office. Adams was Director of the World Scout Conference in 1999 in Durban, South Africa. Africa Scout Region (World Organization Of The Scout Movement)
The Africa Scout Region is the divisional office of the World Scout Bureau of the World Organization of the Scout Movement, headquartered in Nairobi, Kenya, with satellite offices in Cape Town, South Africa, and Dakar, Senegal. The Africa Region services Scouting in Sub-Saharan Africa and neighboring islands that are recognized members of the World Organization of the Scout Movement (WOSM). Currently, the region has 39 member National Scout Associations/Organizations and 11 potential members. There are about one million registered Scouts in Africa, though it is suspected that there are about twice that number in the region. Bronze Wolf
The Bronze Wolf Award is bestowed by the World Scout Committee (WSC) to acknowledge "outstanding service by an individual to the World Scout Movement". It is the highest honor that can be given a volunteer Scout leader in the world and it is the only award given by the WSC. Since the award's creation in 1935, fewer than 400 of the several millions of Scouts throughout the world have received the award. History Scouting's founder, Robert Baden-Powell, initially recognized outstanding contributions to Scouting by any Scout with the bestowal of the Silver Wolf, but although he was Chief Scout of the World, the Silver Wolf was associated with British Scouting. District Six (Afrikaans ''Distrik Ses'') is a former inner-city residential area in Cape Town, South Africa. Scouts South Africa is the World Organization of the Scout Movement (WOSM) recognised Scout association in South Africa. Scouting began in the United Kingdom in 1907 through the efforts of Robert Baden-Powell and rapidly spread to South Africa, with the first Scout troops appearing in 1908. South Africa has contributed many traditions and symbols to World Scouting. Scouts South Africa caters for youth and young adults from the ages of 5 through 30. It is split into four sections – Meerkats, Cubs, Scouts, and Rovers – with each section serving a different age group and concentrating on different areas of personal development. 20th World Scout Jamboree
The 20th World Scout Jamboree took place in the naval base in Sattahip, Thailand between 28 December 2002 and 8 January 2003 - the 62nd anniversary of the death of Lord Baden-Powell, the founder of the Scout Movement. It was the second World Jamboree to be held in Southeast Asia after the Philippines hosted the event in 1959. The Jamboree provided an opportunity for 30,000 Scouts from all over the world to spend 12 days camping together and attend activities designed for them in self-development and social responsibility, within the framework of the educational Scout method. Scouts Canada is a Canadian Scouting association providing programs for young people, aged 5 to 26, with the stated aim "to help develop well rounded youth, better prepared for success in the world".
