Winnie Kiiza
Winifred Kiiza (born 26 November 1972) is a Ugandan teacher and politician, who served as the Leader of Opposition in the Ugandan Parliament, from May 2016 until August 2018. She was replaced as Leader of Opposition by Betty Aol Ochan. She is also the Member of Parliament representing the Kasese District Women in the 10th Ugandan Parliament (2016 to 2021). Background and education Winifred Kiiza was born on 26 November 1972, in Nsenyi Village, Kisinga sub-county, Kasese District, in the Western Region of Uganda. Her mother, Modesty Muke, was a supporter of the Uganda Peoples Congress (UPC) political party, while her father, Kanyere Constance Muke, belonged to the Democratic Party (DP). Kasese
Kasese is a town north of Lake George in the Western Region of Uganda. It originally grew around the copper mine at Kilembe, while attention later turned to cobalt mining. It is the chief town of Kasese District, and the district headquarters are located there. Kasese is also the largest town in the Rwenzururu region. Bwera General Hospital, also Bwera Hospital, is a hospital in the Western Region of Uganda. Kasese Clashes
Violence erupted on 26 November 2016 in the town of Kasese, the capital of the Ugandan Kingdom of Rwenzururu, when Ugandan police raided the government offices of the Rwenzururu kingdom, killing eight Rwenzururian royal guards and arresting two others. According to the government of Uganda, the raid was in response to militant attacks on police posts in the region two weeks earlier, allegedly perpetrated by the royal guards. On the next day, Uganda's armed forces and police raided the Rwenzururu royal palace after the expiration of an ultimatum issued by the Ugandan government, resulting in the deaths of 87 royal guards and 16 policemen. Following the raids, the Omusinga (king) of Rwenzururu, Charles Mumbere, was arrested and charged with murder.
