William Taylor (New Brunswick Politician)
William Taylor (ca. 1789March 27, 1834) was a businessman and political figure in New Brunswick. He represented York in the Legislative Assembly of New Brunswick from 1822 to 1834. He was born in Fredericton, the son of James Taylor who was a native of Scotland, and was educated at the Fredericton Academy. He began work in his father's business in the timber trade while still young and formally joined James Taylor Senior and Company in 1821. Taylor was married twice: first to Ann Cameron in 1816 and then to Sally Hatfield in 1819. He served as secretary and treasurer for the central board of the New-Brunswick Agricultural and Emigrant Society. Taylor was also an auctioneer in York County. He was first elected to the New Brunswick assembly in an 1822 by-election held following the death of Stair Agnew. He died in office in Fredericton. Fredericton (; ) is the capital city of the Canadian province of New Brunswick. The city is situated in the west-central portion of the province along the Saint John River, which flows west to east as it bisects the city. The river is the dominant natural feature of the area. York County (2016 population 99,411) is located in west-central New Brunswick, Canada. The county contains the provincial capital, Fredericton. Outside the city, farming and forestry are two major industries in the county, which is bisected by the Saint John River. The Southwest Miramichi River flows through the northern section of the county. History York County was established in 1785, named after the second son of King George III, Prince Frederick-Augustus (1763-1827), who was made Duke of York in 1784. Stair Agnew (judge)
Stair Agnew (October 19, 1757 – October 10, 1821) was a land owner, judge and political figure in New Brunswick, now in Canada. He represented York County in the Legislative Assembly of New Brunswick from 1792 to 1795 and from 1796 to 1821. Agnew was born in Virginia, the son of the Reverend John Agnew, and was educated in Glasgow, and joined the Queen's Loyal Virginia Regiment at the beginning of the American Revolution. Agnew and his father, a chaplain for the loyalists, were captured in 1781 and released at the end of the war. He went to England where he married Sophia Winifred (last name unknown). In 1789, Agnew settled in New Brunswick near Fredericton. He served as a justice of the peace and a judge of the Inferior Court of Common Pleas for the county from 1799 until his death at his estate in York County in 1821. James Vernon Taylor (born March 12, 1948) is an American singer-songwriter and guitarist. A six-time Grammy Award winner, he was inducted into the Rock and Roll Hall of Fame in 2000.
