William S. Ballinger

He received his education at the University of Wisconsin, receiving a B.A. in 1934, and earned an LL.D. from Northern College, Philippines in 1940. Career Working in radio and advertising in the early 1940s, Ballinger wrote 81 radio scripts and produced '' The Dinah Shore Show'', ''The Breakfast Club'', and Lowell Thomas broadcasts. He was a Liberal member of the Legislative Assembly of Ontario from 1987 to 1990 who represented the GTA riding of Durham—York. Background Ballinger was educated at the University of Waterloo and Toronto Teacher's College. He owns and operates Artforms, in Uxbridge, Ont. Politics He served as mayor, councillor and regional councillor in Uxbridge, Ontario. He was elected to the Ontario legislature in the 1987 provincial election, defeating Progressive Conservative incumbent Ross Stevenson by 482 votes. He served as parliamentary assistant to the Minister of Municipal Affairs from 1988 to 1989. The Indian Ocean raid, also known as Operation C or Battle of Ceylon in Japanese, was a naval sortie carried out by the Imperial Japanese Navy (IJN) from 31 March to 10 April 1942. Japanese aircraft carriers under Admiral Chūichi Nagumo struck Allied shipping and naval bases around Ceylon, but failed to locate and destroy the bulk of the British Eastern Fleet. The Eastern Fleet, commanded by Admiral Sir James Somerville, was forewarned by intelligence and sailed from its bases prior to the raid; its attempt to attack the Japanese was frustrated by poor tactical intelligence. Following the attack the British expected a major Japanese offensive in the Indian Ocean.
