William Thomas Robertson, (2 February 1917 – 2 January 2011) was the fourth Director-General of the Australian Secret Intelligence Service, Director-General of the Australian Secret Intelligence Service (ASIS), from 1968 until 1975, when was dismissed by Prime Minister Gough Whitlam; the reasons for Robertson's dismissal have remained a matter of controversy. During the Second World War, Robertson served as an Australian Army officer. Cricket career An off-spinner who opened the bowling, on his first-class debut for Canterbury against Auckland in January 1894 Robertson took 8 for 59 then, bowling unchanged throughout the second innings, 6 for 48. William "Digger" Roderick Robertson (6 October 1861 – 24 June 1938) was an Australian cricketer who played in one Test match in 1885. A native of the New South Wales town of Deniliquin, near the Victoria border, Digger Robertson was a right-handed batsman with a leg break bowling style. He made his first-class debut for Victoria against the English touring team in November 1884, taking 3 for 36 and 5 for 46. After the Australian team for the First Test in December refused to play in the Second Test, Robertson was one of eight Test debutants selected. However, he took no wickets, Australia lost, and along with four of the other debutants, he played no further Test cricket. William Seymour Robertson (20 April 1907 – 1980) was a Scottish footballer who played at right half. He played for King's Park, Ayr United, Stoke City, Manchester United, and Reading. Career Robertson was born in Falkirk and played for King's Park and Ayr United before joining English side Stoke City in August 1929. It took him until 1930–31 to establish himself in Tom Mather's first team playing in 23 matches. He made the right half position his own in 1931–32 missing just two matches and then played in 40 matches in 1932–33 as Stoke won the Second Division title. William Robertson (8 April 1874 – after 1904) was a Scottish professional footballer who played for Abercorn, Small Heath and Bristol Rovers between 1894 and 1903. Life and career Robertson was born in Dumbarton, Scotland. He played football for Renfrew Victoria before joining Abercorn in 1894. Robertson joined English First Division club Small Heath in February 1896, and played eight times before the team were relegated at the end of the season.
