William Powers (born March 14, 1961) is an American writer, journalist, and technologist. He is the author of ''Hamlet's BlackBerry: A Practical Philosophy for Building a Good Life in the Digital Age''. Life and career Powers grew up in Rhode Island, and graduated from Harvard University with a degree in history and literature. He did graduate study in Spain, then moved to Washington, DC, where he was a U.S. Senate aide working on foreign relations, intelligence and military affairs. William Powers is a New York Republican Party political activist. Before becoming the Republican state chairman, Powers was the chairman of the Rensselaer County Republican Committee. Powers was an aide to Senator Al D'Amato. He was elected state chairman two months after the New York Republicans had suffered a crushing defeat in the 1990 gubernatorial election. At the time, the state committee was over $1 million in debt, and Republicans controlled only 19 of New York's 62 counties. Will Powers was the stage name used by celebrity photographer Lynn Goldsmith when she created a self-help comedy music album.
