Munsinger Affair
The Munsinger affair was Canada's first national political sex scandal in 1966. The affair involved Gerda Munsinger, a German citizen who had been convicted in Germany as a common prostitute, a petty thief and a smuggler, who emigrated to Canada in 1956 in spite of a warning card dated 1952, and who was in 1960 the mistress of the former Associate Minister of National Defence Pierre Sévigny. Munsinger was "a self-admitted espionage agent" in the employ of the "Russian Intelligence Service". The affair in Ottawa Munsinger had been accepted into a Canadian Immigration program looking for young women displaced by war to work as domestics and au pairs in Canada. She arrived in Quebec City aboard the ''Acosta Sun'' in search of a better life. She was assigned to a family in Montreal. In business, the term boiler room refers to an outbound call center selling questionable investments by telephone. It usually refers to a room where salespeople work using unfair, dishonest sales tactics, sometimes selling penny stocks or private placements or committing outright stock fraud. A common boiler room tactic is the use of falsified and bolstered information in combination with verified company-released information. The term is pejorative: it is often used to imply high-pressure sales tactics and, sometimes, poor working conditions. Rouyn-Noranda ( 2021 population 42,313) is a city on Osisko Lake in the Abitibi-Témiscamingue region of Quebec, Canada. The Quebec Games (french: 'Jeux du Québec') is a biennial multi-sport event, held every two years in the Canadian province of Quebec, alternating between the Quebec Winter Games and the Quebec Summer Games. Athletes are strictly amateur only, and represent their region. The Games were founded in 1970. The first editions of both the Quebec Winter Games and Quebec Summer Games were held in 1971. Daniel Johnson Sr
Francis Daniel Johnson Sr. (April 9, 1915 – September 26, 1968) was a Canadian politician and the 20th premier of Quebec from 1966 to his death in 1968. Background Johnson was born in Danville, Quebec, Canada. He was the son of Francis Johnson, an anglophone labourer of Irish heritage, and Marie-Adéline Daniel, a French Canadian. He was raised bilingually but educated entirely in French. In 1943, Johnson married Reine Gagné. Armand Courville
Armand Courville (1910 – 1 February 1991) was a Canadian gangster and a prominent associate of the Cotroni crime family in Montreal. Wrestler Courville was born into a working class family in Montreal, where he excelled at amateur wrestling in his local Catholic school. Like most French-Canadian families at the time, the Courville family was a very large one as he had 15 siblings. Courville worked as a successful professional wrestler. To capitalize on his wrestling fame, Courville also ran a wrestling school, the ''Club St. Paul de Ville'', where one of his students was an young Vincenzo Cotroni. Courville was a leading star in the wrestling promotion run by Sylvio Samson, holding the Quebec and Canadian mid-heavyweight championships. The 1967 International and Universal Exposition, commonly known as Expo 67, was a general exhibition from April 27 to October 29, 1967. It was a category One World's Fair held in Montreal, Quebec, Canada. It is considered to be one of the most successful World's Fairs of the 20th century with the most attendees to that date and 62 nations participating. It also set the single-day attendance record for a world's fair, with 569,500 visitors on its third day. Expo 67 was Canada's main celebration during its centennial year. Robert Reguly
Robert Joseph Reguly (19 January 1931, in Fort William, Ontario – 24 February 2011) was a three-time National Newspaper Award-winning investigative journalist. He was one of Canada's top reporters in the 1950s and 1960s, and was at the forefront of the mid-20th century news war between the ''Toronto Telegram'' and his own paper, the ''Toronto Star''. Career Reguly won his first National Newspaper Award in 1964 for tracking down union leader Hal Banks, a fugitive who had fled to Brooklyn, New York.
