William Norman Bowman
William N. Bowman (born 1868 in Carthage, New York, d. August 28, 1944 in Denver) was a prolific architect in Colorado. He was born in 1868 in Carthage, New York. As the eldest of five children, he had to quit school at age 11 to work in a woolen mill, in order to support the family after his father was injured. Hoping to become an architect and builder, he studied math and drawing at night, at a schoolteacher's home. He first worked at an architect's office in Jackson, Michigan. Detroit architect Col. Elijah E. Myers recommended he do a carpenter's apprenticeship, which he did. He later worked for architects Mortimer L. Smith & Son in Detroit and Thurtle & Fleming in Indianapolis. And then was a member of Rush, Bowman & Rush, a construction firm. In the main part of his career he worked as an architect in Denver and designed buildings statewide. McCook, NE
McCook is a city in and the county seat of Red Willow County, Nebraska, United States. The population was 7,446 at the 2020 census. History McCook was platted in 1882 when the Burlington and Missouri River Railroad was extended to that point. It was named in honor of Alexander McDowell McCook, a brigadier general in the Union Army during the American Civil War. McCook is known as the capital of the Buffalo Commons. In the 1980’s when times were hard, academics proposed that they should depopulate the high plains and give it back to the buffalo, except people of the town did not agree and wanted to stay on the land that they loved. The people were resourceful and able to overcome the hardship/stay in their community. Nowadays, the Buffalo Commons is used as a metaphor for looking for a solution. The Colorado Building is a historic commercial building located at 401-411 North Main Street in Downtown Pueblo, Colorado, USA. The building was built in 1925 for the Southern Colorado Investment Company, and was designed by the William N. Bowman Co. It was added to the National Register of Historic Places on April 17, 1992. It is a four-story building with tapestry brick, predominantly dark red, on its facades. It has vertical divisions of windows set off by columns of off-white brick. It has eight of these divisions on its Main Street facade, and 16 vertical divisions on its 4th Street facade.
