William Francis Nichols
William Francis Nichols (October 8, 1852November 15, 1917) was an American businessman and politician. A long serving justice of the peace, he was elected to the Arizona Territorial Legislature and appointed to a four-year term as Secretary of Arizona Territory. Biography Nichols was born to William Nathaniel and Emily Louise (Haywood) Nichols on October 8, 1852 in Sterling, Massachusetts. The family moved to Michigan Bar, California in 1855. From there, they went to Sacramento before settling in Oakland. Nichols was educated in Oakland's public schools. Upon completing his formal education, Nichols went to work for his father and brother in the family's woodenware business. After moving to Arizona Territory in 1880, Nichols lived in Tombstone and Charleston for about a year before settling in Willcox. There he went to work for the L. W. Blinn Lumber Company. William Lee Nichols (born 1940) is an American guitarist and soul songwriter from Carrollton, Mississippi. Early years Nichols was one of nine children born to Laura Bell and Tom Sanders. Sanders was a farmer who played blues guitar in his spare time. Inspired by his father and blues musicians he heard on the radio, Nichols taught himself guitar. Aged 14, Nichols' family moved to Springfield, Massachusetts where Nichols played with various bands including a gospel group named The Bells of Harmony. In 1963, Nichols joined Jimmy Vick and The Victors and recorded a single. The group were mentioned in '' Billboard'' and got some local radio airplay but by November, the group broke up. Career In 1964, Nichols moved to Detroit and stayed with his uncle. He was hired by Motown Records where his first job was playing with Martha and the Vandellas. William Flynt Nichols (October 16, 1918 – December 13, 1988) was a Democratic member of United States House of Representatives from Alabama, having served from 1967 until his death from a heart attack in Washington, D.C. in 1988. Life Nichols was born on October 16, 1918. On January 30, 1942, Nichols married Maude Carolyn Funderburk. He was a Methodist, having served on the Board of Stewards of Sylacauga's First Methodist Church. Nichols died of a heart attack on December 13, 1988. Education Nichols received a bachelor's degree in Agriculture in 1939 from the ''Alabama Polytechnic Institute'' (now Auburn University) and a master's degree in Agronomy from the same institution in 1941. Nichols School is a private, non-denominational, co-educational college- preparatory day school in Buffalo, New York, United States. History Nichols School was founded in 1892 by William Nichols. The school was founded as an all-boys school with its campus on Amherst Street in North Buffalo. William Ford Nichols (June 9, 1849 – June 5, 1924) was the second Bishop of California in The Episcopal Church. Biography William Ford Nichols was born in Lloyd, New York on June 9, 1849. He graduated from Berkeley Divinity School Berkeley Divinity School, founded in 1854, is a seminary of The Episcopal Church in New Haven, Connecticut. William Ripley Nichols (April 30, 1847 – July 14, 1886) was a noted American chemist. Early life Nichols was born in Boston, Massachusetts, graduated from the Massachusetts Institute of Technology in 1869, and served there as instructor and assistant professor until 1872, when he was elected professor of general chemistry, which chair he retained until his death in Hamburg, Germany. Later life Professor Nichols was recognized as an authority on sanitation, and particularly on water purification, published numerous papers on municipal water supplies, and was active in the pioneering work of the Lawrence Experiment Station. William Nichols (1837 – date of death unknown) was a Union Navy sailor in the American Civil War and a recipient of the Medal of Honor for his actions at the Battle of Mobile Bay. Born in 1837 in New York City, Nichols was still living in the state of New York when he joined the Navy. He served during the Civil War as a quartermaster on the . At the Battle of Mobile Bay on August 5, 1864, he "fought his gun with skill and courage" despite heavy fire.
