William McNairn Shaw
William McNairn Shaw (1822 – December 30, 1868) was an Ontario lawyer and political figure. He represented Lanark South in the 1st Legislative Assembly of Ontario The 1st Parliament of Ontario was in session from September 3, 1867, until February 25, 1871, just prior to the 1871 general election. This was the first session of the Legislature after Confederation succeeding the Legislative Assembly of the Pr ... from 1867 to 1868 as a Conservative member. He was born in Ramsay Township, Upper Canada in 1822, the son of John Shaw. Shaw studied law with Daniel McMartin at Perth. He died in Perth in 1868. His brother Alexander Shaw later served in the Canadian House of Commons. Abraham Code
Abraham Code (December 28, 1828 – March 23, 1898) was an Ontario businessman and political figure. He represented Lanark South in the Legislative Assembly of Ontario from 1869 to 1879. He was born in Lanark Township in 1828 and educated there. He served as reeve for Drummond Township from 1860 to 1875. Code built a large woollen mill at Carleton Place in 1871; he was forced to close it due to financial difficulties in 1878. He was elected to the provincial legislature in an 1869 by-election held after the death of William McNairn Shaw. Perth is a town in Eastern Ontario, Canada. It is located on the Tay River, southwest of Ottawa, and is the seat of Lanark County. History The town was established as a military settlement in 1816, shortly after the War of 1812. The settlement of Lanark County began in 1815. In that year "the Settlement forming on the Rideau River" as it was officially referred to (and which soon became known as "Perth Military Settlement") began to function under Military direction. The settlement was named Perth in honour of acting Governor-General Sir Gordon Drummond, whose ancestral home was Perthshire. Alexander Shaw (Canadian Politician)
Alexander Shaw (January 13, 1833 – April 21, 1911) was a Canadian lawyer and political figure. He represented Bruce South in the House of Commons of Canada as a Liberal-Conservative member from 1878 to 1882. He was born in Ramsay Township, Upper Canada in 1833, the son of John Shaw. He was educated in Perth and studied law there. In 1853, he moved to Bruce County and settled at Kincardine. Shaw married Anna Robertson. He later moved to Walkerton and became solicitor for the county in 1867. He also served as mayor of Walkerton.
