William McCutcheon
William McCutcheon (second ¼ 1870 – 3 July 1949) was a Welsh international rugby wing who played club rugby in the union code for Swansea, and represented Oldham ( Heritage No. 23) under the league code. McCutcheon was capped for the Wales national rugby union team seven times between 1891 and 1894. In 1893 he was a member of the first Welsh Triple Crown winning team. Rugby career McCutcheon joined Swansea in 1886, but in 1888 moved to Oldham.Alcock (1997) While at Oldham, McCutcheon joined Oldham Rugby Union Club but still travelled to Wales, turning out for Swansea when he could. At Oldham he played on the opposite wing to fellow Swansea player David Gwynn, who had also moved to the area. In 1889 McCutcheon was selected for the Lancashire county, again playing alongside Gwynn, and during the 1889/90 season he was part of the team that won the Championship County. 1892 Home Nations Championship
The 1892 Home Nations Championship was the tenth series of the rugby union Home Nations Championship. Six matches were played between 2 January and 5 March. It was contested by England, Ireland, Scotland and Wales. England took the 1892 Championship and the Triple Crown, their fifth Championship and third Triple Crown. Furthermore, the English team failed to concede a single point, the only time this has occurred during the Championship's history. The points system was changed yet again, with a try being upgraded from one to two points, while a goal conversion was increased from two to three points. 1884 Home Nations Championship
The 1884 Home Nations Championship was the second series of the rugby union Home Nations Championship. Six matches were played between 5 January and 12 April 1884. It was contested by England, Ireland, Scotland, and Wales. England won the championship for the second consecutive season and in beating the other three nations won the Triple Crown for the second time. This Championship was most notable for a dispute arising from the game between England and Scotland, when the winning English try was disputed by the Scottish. The teams disagreed with the interpretation of a knock-on law from which England's Richard Kingsley scored and Scotland were told to accept the decision, and their request for adjudication was denied by England. The bitter feelings caused by this situation resulted in the creation of the International Rugby Board in 1886, to create an accepted body of rules that all members would agree to. Norman Biggs
Norman Witchell Biggs (3 November 1870 – 27 February 1908) was a Welsh international rugby union wing who played club rugby for Cardiff and county rugby for Glamorgan. Both Biggs and his brother Selwyn played international rugby for Wales, though they never played together in the same match for Wales. Biggs also played cricket for Glamorgan and in 1893 was part of a team that took on Cardiff in a two-day match; he faced his brother Selwyn, who was a member of the Cardiff team. Biggs is notable for being a member of the 1893 Triple Crown winning Wales team, being the youngest capped player to represent the Wales international team, a record he held for over a century, and the unusual circumstances of his death by poison arrow. Bert Gould
George Herbert Gould (18 April 1870 – 19 December 1913) was a Welsh international rugby union centre who played club rugby for Newport Rugby Football Club and won three caps for Wales. Gould is best known within the sport of rugby as the brother of Arthur 'Monkey' Gould, one of the first superstars of Welsh rugby. Rugby career Gould was one of five brothers who played rugby for Newport, including Welsh internationals Arthur and Robert. Bert was first chosen to represent Wales himself as part of the 1892 Home Nations Championship. Under the captaincy of his brother Arthur, Gould was chosen to play in the last of the games of the tournament against Ireland.
