William Kerr (Canadian Politician)
William Kerr (February 27, 1836 – November 22, 1906) was a lawyer and political figurein Ontario, Canada. He represented Northumberland West in the House of Commons of Canada from 1874 to 1878 as a Liberal member and served in the Senate of Canada from 1899 to 1906. He was born in Ameliasburg, Upper Canada in 1836, the son of Francis William Kerr, an Irish immigrant, and Olive Shelley, and was educated at Victoria University in Cobourg. Kerr later served as a member of the University's senate and as its bursar. He was called to the bar in 1859 and set up practice in Cobourg. Kerr served on the town council for Cobourg and was mayor from 1867 to 1873. After his re-election in 1874, he was unseated on appeal but won the subsequent by-election. He was made a Queen's Counsel in 1876. He ran unsuccessfully for the federal seat in 1878 and 1882. Corelli Collard Field
Corelli Collard Field (October 5, 1830 – February 2, 1898) was an Ontario businessman and political figure. He represented Northumberland West in the Legislative Assembly of Ontario from 1886 to 1898 as a Liberal member. He was born in Tavistock, Devonshire, England in 1830, the son of John Field, and was brought to Cobourg, Upper Canada by his parents in 1834. He operated a general store in Cobourg in partnership with his brother John Collard. Field served on the public school board, served ten years on the town council and was mayor of Cobourg. He was also a commissioner of the Cobourg Town Trust. His sister Myra Jane married William Kerr, who represented Northumberland West in the federal parliament. John Collard Field was an Ontario political figure. He represented Northumberland West in the Legislative Assembly of Ontario from 1879 to 1883 as a Liberal member. Northumberland West
Northumberland West was a federal electoral district represented in the House of Commons of Canada from 1867 to 1917. It was located in the province of Ontario. It was created by the British North America Act of 1867. The original definition of the riding is not known. In 1903, it was defined to consist of the townships of Alnwick, Haldimand and Hamilton, and the town of Cobourg. The electoral district was abolished in 1914 when it was merged into Northumberland riding. Cobourg, Ontario
Cobourg ( ) is a town in the Canadian province of Ontario, located in Southern Ontario east of Toronto and east of Oshawa. It is the largest town in and seat of Northumberland County. Its nearest neighbour is Port Hope, to the west. It is located along Highway 401 (exits 472 and 474) and the former Highway 2 (now Northumberland County Road 2). To the south, Cobourg borders Lake Ontario. To the north, east and west, it is surrounded by Hamilton Township.
