William John McCoy
William John McCoy (September 30, 1834June 28, 1897) was an American farmer, Democratic politician, and Wisconsin pioneer. He served six years in the Wisconsin State Assembly, representing Grant County. Biography McCoy was born on September 30, 1834, in Argyle, New York. He moved to Beetown, Wisconsin, in 1852 and to Lancaster, Wisconsin, in 1880. McCoy died on June 28, 1897. Career McCoy was elected to the Assembly in 1875 and served four terms. Additionally, he was Chairman of the Beetown Board for five years between 1869 and 1876. Grant County is a county (United States), county located in the U.S. state of Wisconsin. As of the 2020 United States census, 2020 census, the population was 51,938. Its county seat is Lancaster, Wisconsin, Lancaster. The Wisconsin State Assembly is the lower house of the Wisconsin Legislature. Together with the smaller Wisconsin Senate, the two constitute the legislative branch of the U.S. state of Wisconsin. Representatives are elected for two-year terms, elected during the fall elections. If a vacancy occurs in an Assembly seat between elections, it may be filled only by a special election. The Wisconsin Constitution limits the size of the State Assembly to between 54 and 100 members inclusive. Since 1973, the state has been divided into 99 Assembly districts apportioned amongst the state based on population as determined by the decennial census, for a total of 99 representatives.
