Sir William Alexander Jeffrey, KCB (born 28 February 1948) is a former senior British civil servant, who retired in the autumn of 2010. Jeffrey was educated at Allan Glen's School, Glasgow, and the Glasgow University. He joined the Home Office in 1971. From 1998 until 2002 he was Political Director of the Northern Ireland Office, supporting the Prime Minister and successive Secretaries of State on the implementation of the Good Friday Agreement. He was subsequently Britain's most senior immigration official – director-general of the Immigration and Nationality Directorate – from 2002 to 2005. In April 2005 he joined the Cabinet Office as Security and Intelligence Coordinator, where he was the Prime Minister's principal adviser on security, intelligence, and counter-terrorism strategy. William Michael Jeffrey (21 June 1950 – 2 September 1993) was a Guyanese cricketer who represented the Guyanese national team in West Indian domestic cricket. He was an all-rounder who bowled right-arm off-spin and batted right-handed. Jeffrey was born in the town of Rose Hall, in what is now Guyana's East Berbice-Corentyne region. William Walls Jeffrey (1866 – 25 August 1932) was an English footballer who played in defence for various teams, including Burnley, Woolwich Arsenal and Southampton St. Mary's in the 1890s. Football career Jeffrey was born in Dalderby, near Horncastle, Lincolnshire. After a spell in Lancashire with West Manchester, Jeffrey played for several clubs in Lincolnshire, before returning to the north-west to join Burnley of the Football League in August 1891. In the 1891–92 season, Jeffrey made seven appearances for the first team playing at right-back as Burnley finished seventh in the table. At this time, Burnley had a very large squad of players, including "nearly fifty Scotsmen", so the majority of their players had to content themselves by appearing in the reserve side. One of those Scotsmen was Tom Nicol, who made the No. 2 shirt his own in 1892–93 as a result of which, Jeffrey made no further first-team appearances for the Turf Moor club. William Jeffrey (American Soccer)
William "Bill" Jeffrey (August 3, 1892January 7, 1966) was the head coach of the United States national soccer team at the 1950 FIFA World Cup that famously beat England 1–0 in one of the greatest upsets in the history of soccer. He was the coach of Penn State for 26 seasons, winning ten national college championships. He is a member of the National Soccer Hall of Fame. Career Born in Edinburgh, Scotland, Jeffrey began playing at an early age, but suffered a career-ending injury. His mother sent him to live with an uncle in the United States. He began working as a mechanic with the Altoona Railroad Shop of the Pennsylvania Railroad. He eventually came to manage the company team. In 1925, his team played an exhibition game with Penn State University. This resulted in an offer to coach the men's soccer team, a position he held for 27 years. Chief William Jeffrey (born 1899, date of death unknown) was a Canadian hereditary Tsimshian Chief, First Nations activist and carver. He attended residential school from 1914 to 1917. Though he desired to be a lawyer, his status as a First Nations person and government policy at the time prevented him from attending college for any profession other than the clergy. In 1930 he co-founded the Native Brotherhood of British Columbia.
