William J. Larkin Jr.
William J. Larkin Jr. (February 5, 1928 – August 31, 2019) was an American politician and retired U.S. Army officer from the state of New York. Larkin was a decorated veteran of World War II and the Korean War. In 1967, he retired from the Army as a lieutenant colonel. Following his retirement from the Army, Larkin served as New Windsor town supervisor. A Republican, Larkin sat in the New York State Legislature for 40 years, representing various districts in the Hudson Valley. Larkin was a member of the State Assembly between 1979 and 1990, representing first the 97th and then the 95th Districts. New York's 39th State Senate district is one of 63 districts in the New York State Senate. It has been represented by Democrat James Skoufis, Republican William Larkin, and is currently represented by Robert Rolison. Geography District 39 is located in the Hudson Valley, including much of Orange County and smaller parts of Rockland County and Ulster County. The New York State Legislature consists of the two houses that act as the state legislature of the U.S. state of New York: The New York State Senate and the New York State Assembly. The Constitution of New York does not designate an official term for the two houses together; it says only that the state's legislative power "shall be vested in the senate and assembly". Selma To Montgomery Marches
The Selma to Montgomery marches were three protest marches, held in 1965, along the 54-mile (87 km) highway from Selma, Alabama, to the state capital of Montgomery. The marches were organized by nonviolent activists to demonstrate the desire of African-American citizens to exercise their constitutional right to vote, in defiance of segregationist repression; they were part of a broader voting rights movement underway in Selma and throughout the American South. By highlighting racial injustice, they contributed to passage that year of the Voting Rights Act, a landmark federal achievement of the civil rights movement. An officer candidate school (OCS) is a military school which trains civilians and Enlisted rank, enlisted personnel in order for them to gain a Commission (document), commission as Commissioned officer, officers in the armed forces of a country. How OCS is run differs between countries and services. Typically, officer candidates have already attained post-secondary education, and sometimes a bachelor's degree, and undergo a short duration of training (not more than a year) which focuses primarily on military skills and leadership. La Salle Institute is an independent, private, Catholic college preparatory school run by the Institute of the Brothers of the Christian Schools in Troy, New York, United States serving boys and girls in grades six through twelve. It was established by the De La Salle Brothers in 1850 and located within but operates independently of the Diocese of Albany.
