William Ignatius Nolan
William Ignatius Nolan (May 14, 1874 – August 3, 1943) was a politician from the U.S. State of Minnesota. He represented the state in the U.S. House of Representatives. Nolan was born in Saint Paul, Minnesota and served in the Minnesota National Guard from 1891 to 1896. He was member of the Minnesota House of Representatives from 1903 to 1907, 1911–1913, and 1917–1923, serving as speaker from 1919–1923. He was Lieutenant Governor of Minnesota from 1925–1929. Nolan was the chairman of the Minnesota Reforestation Commission in 1927. Nolan was elected as a Republican to the 71st congress to fill the vacancy caused by the resignation of Walter Newton. Nolan was reelected to the 72nd congress and served from June 17, 1929, to March 4, 1933. Ernest Lundeen
Ernest Lundeen (August 4, 1878August 31, 1940) was an American lawyer and politician. Family and education Lundeen was born and raised on his father's homestead in Brooklyn Township of Lincoln County near Beresford in the Dakota Territory. His father, C. H. Lundeen, was an early pioneer who was credited with the naming of Brooklyn Township as well as with helping to establish the school and other institutions located there. Most of Ernest Lundeen's brothers and sisters died during a diphtheria epidemic during the 1880s. In 1896, Lundeen and his family moved to Harcourt, Iowa, and then to Minnesota. He graduated from Carleton College in Northfield, Minnesota, in 1901 and then studied law at the University of Minnesota Law School. In 1906 he was admitted to the bar. Paul John Kvale
Paul John Kvale (; March 27, 1896 – June 14, 1960) was a U.S. Representative from Minnesota. Early life Kvale who was born in Orfordville, Wisconsin as the son of Ole J. Kvale. He attended the Orfordville school and the University of Illinois at Urbana-Champaign, University of Illinois. In 1917, he moved to Benson, Minnesota with his parents. Kvale was graduated from Luther College (Iowa), Luther College in Decorah, Iowa, in 1917 and served in the United States Army during the First World War as a sergeant in a machine gun corps, from September 7, 1917, to August 4, 1919. Harold Knutson (October 20, 1880 – August 21, 1953) was an American politician and journalist, who represented Minnesota in the United States House of Representatives from 1917 to 1949 as a member of the Republican Party. Magnus Johnson
Magnus Johnson (September 19, 1871September 13, 1936) was an American farmer and politician. He served in the United States Senate and United States House of Representatives from Minnesota as a member of the Farmer–Labor Party. Johnson is the only Swedish-born person to serve in the U.S. Senate. Biography Johnson was born near Karlstad, Sweden, and his family moved to La Crosse, Wisconsin, United States, in 1891. They moved to Meeker County, Minnesota, in 1893. Einar Hoidale (August 17, 1870 – December 5, 1952) was an American lawyer, newspaper editor and elected official. He served as a member of the United States House of Representatives during the 1930s. Biography Einar Hoidale was born at Tromsø in Troms, Norway. He was the son of Andrew Hoidale and Dorthea (Lund) Hoidale. He immigrated to the United States with his family at the age of seven. From 1890, he served as editor of the '' Western Guard '' newspaper in Madison, Minnesota. He graduated from the University of Minnesota Law School in 1898. Minnesota's 5th Congressional District
Minnesota's 5th congressional district is a geographically small urban and suburban congressional district in Minnesota. It covers eastern Hennepin County, including the entire city of Minneapolis, along with parts of Anoka and Ramsey counties. Besides Minneapolis, major cities in the district include St. Louis Park, Richfield, Crystal, Robbinsdale, Golden Valley, New Hope, Fridley, and a small portion of Edina. It was created in 1883, and was nicknamed the "Bloody Fifth" on account of its first election. The contest between Knute Nelson and Charles F. Kindred involved graft, intimidation, and election fraud at every turn. The Republican convention on July 12 in Detroit Lakes was compared to the historic Battle of the Boyne in Ireland.
