William Edington Armit
William Edington Armit (10 May 1848 – 3 January 1901) was a soldier, sailor, Native Police officer in the British colony of Queensland, explorer, naturalist and colonial administrator in British New Guinea. Armit is regarded as one of the most violent officers of the paramilitary Native Police force. Early life William Edington Armit was born Guillaume Edington Armit in Liège in 1848. He was born to an Anglo-Irish army agent John Lees Armit and his second wife Elizabeth Yeldham. He later modified his name to William Edington de Marguerittes (de Magrat) Amrit, taking on the French appellation of his father's first wife who was no relation to him. Carron River (Queensland)
The Carron River is a river located in Far North Queensland, Australia. Course and features The river rises at the northern end of the Gregory Range and flows west to the north but roughly parallel with the Gulf Developmental Road until discharging into the Norman River of which it is a tributary near the town of Normanton. It flows thorough many temporary and permanent waterholes through the journey including Rope Hole. The Carron has five tributaries including Rocky Creek, Foote Creek, Tabletop Creek, Ten Mile Creek and Telephone Creek. The traditional owners of the area to the north of the Carron are the Walangama people and to the south are the Kurtjar people. The Walsh River is a river located on the Cape York Peninsula of Far North Queensland, Australia. The headwaters of the river rise in the locality of Watsonville on the Atherton Tableland approximately north of Herberton and then flow in a westerly direction then turning north past Mount Masterton and then veering west again near Tabacum. The ''Fraser Coast Chronicle'' is an online newspaper serving the Fraser Coast area in Queensland, Australia. It was started as the Maryborough Chronicle, Wide Bay and Burnett Advertiser. History Charles Hardie Buzacott first published the ''Maryborough Chronicle, Wide Bay and Burnett Advertiser'' in Maryborough as a four-page tabloid, in his slab hut in Lennox Street in November 1860. It sold for sixpence and was read from Gayndah in the west and Childers in the north to Gympie in the south. In 1863, Buzacott sold his interests to William Swain Roberts and Joseph Robinson, who set out to "reflect the community's wants and opinions while boldly and distinctly enunciating our own views".
