William Deacon White
William Freeman "Deacon" White (December 6, 1878 – November 1, 1939) was an American educator and an athlete, coach, manager, owner and promoter of multiple sports, known as the "King of Sports" in Edmonton, Alberta, during the 1920s. His is remembered as founder of multiple sports teams and the first coach of the Edmonton Eskimos football team. A book-length biography of him called him "the founder of modern sports in Edmonton". Biography White was born in Sheridan, Illinois, on 6 December 1878 and graduated with a master's degree from Northwestern University. There is no record of him playing intercollegiate sports there, but he is believed to have played intramural sports, and excelled at track, basketball, rugby, and baseball. Sheridan is a village in LaSalle County, Illinois, United States. As of the 2020 census, the village's population was 2,431, up from 2,137 at the 2010 census. It is part of the Ottawa Micropolitan Statistical Area. Geography Sheridan is located at (41.5236847, -88.6850380). Allan Cup
The Allan Cup is the trophy awarded annually to the national senior amateur men's ice hockey champions of Canada. It was donated by Sir Montagu Allan of Ravenscrag, Montreal, and has been competed for since 1909. The current champions are the Lacombe Generals, who captured the 2019 Allan Cup in Lacombe, Alberta. History In 1908, a split occurred in the competition of ice hockey in Canada. The top amateur teams left the Eastern Canada Amateur Hockey Association, which allowed professionals, to form the new Inter-Provincial Amateur Hockey Union (IPAHU), a purely amateur league. Edmonton Eskimos (ice Hockey)
The Edmonton Eskimos were a Canadian amateur and later professional men's ice hockey team that existed from 1911 to 1927. After playing in senior hockey in the Alberta-based Big-4 League, the Eskimos joined the Western Canada Hockey League (WCHL) for the inaugural 1921–22 WCHL season, and played for the Stanley Cup against the Ottawa Senators in 1923, as the WCHL Champions. Team alumni include Hockey Hall of Fame members Eddie Shore, Duke Keats and Bullet Joe Simpson. Edmonton Eskimos (baseball)
The Edmonton Eskimos were a baseball team that played in the class-D Western Canada League from 1909 until the league's demise in 1914 (when they were known as the Esquimos), and later in a revival of the league between 1919 and 1921. Edmonton Elks
The Edmonton Elks are a professional Canadian football team based in Edmonton, Alberta. The club competes in the Canadian Football League (CFL) as a member of the league's West Division and plays their home games at the Brick Field at Commonwealth Stadium. The Western Canadian Baseball League (WCBL) is a collegiate summer baseball league based in Saskatchewan and Alberta that descends from leagues dating to 1931. Frank Goode
Frank Goode (born 19 December 1939) is a former Australian rules footballer who played for North Melbourne in the VFL during the 1960s. Owing to an injury to John Dugdale, Goode spent the 1965 and 1966 seasons as a full-forward with success. He topped North Melbourne's goal kicking in those years with 38 and 49 goals respectively.
