William Coates, 1st Baronet
Sir William Frederick Coates, 1st Baronet (1866 – 19 January 1932) was an Irish stockbroker and politician in Belfast. Early life Coates was born in Belfast in 1866. He studied at the Royal Belfast Academical Institution. He was the son of David Lindsay Coates and Sara (née Mulligan) Coates. Career He initially entered the linen trade, but became a stockbroker in 1887, building up an extensive business known as William F. Coates & Co, stockbrokers. In 1902 he was elected to Belfast Corporation. He was chairman of the finance committee from 1917 and was elected Lord Mayor of Belfast in 1920 and then re-elected twice, serving until 1923. He hosted the King and Queen when they visited Belfast to open the Parliament of Northern Ireland (of which he was also a Senator, both ''ex officio'' as Lord Mayor and as an elected member 1924-1929) in July 1921. The Lord Mayor of Belfast is the leader and chairperson of Belfast City Council, elected annually from and by the City's 60 councillors. The High Sheriff of Antrim is the Sovereign's judicial representative in County Antrim. Initially an office for lifetime, assigned by the Sovereign, the high sheriff became annually appointed from the Provisions of Oxford in 1258. Besides his judicial importance, he has ceremonial and administrative functions and executes High Court Writs. Coates Baronets
The Coates Baronetcy, of Haypark in the City of Belfast, is a title in the Baronetage of the United Kingdom (see also Milnes Coates baronets, which is a separate baronetcy in England and Coats baronets, which is a separate baronetcy in Scotland). It was created on 15 July 1921 for William Coates. He was a senior partner of William F. Coates & Co, stockbrokers, of Belfast, Lord Mayor of Belfast in 1920, 1921, 1922, 1929 and 1930 and a member of the Senate of Northern Ireland. He was succeeded by his son, the second Baronet. He was a brigadier in the Royal Tank Regiment. As of 2014 the title is held by his son, the third Baronet, who succeeded in 1994. Norroy and Ulster King of Arms is the Provincial King of Arms at the College of Heralds with jurisdiction over England north of the Trent and Northern Ireland. The two offices of Norroy and Ulster were formerly separate. Norroy King of Arms is the older office, there being a reference as early as 1276 to a "King of Heralds beyond the Trent in the North". The name ''Norroy'' is derived from the French meaning 'north king'. Major Sir Nevile Rodwell Wilkinson, KCVO (26 October 1869 – 22 December 1940), was a British officer of arms, British Army officer, author and a dollhouse designer. Early life and military career Wilkinson was born in Highgate, Middlesex, the son of a barrister. He was educated at Harrow School and entered the Royal Military College, Sandhurst in 1889. He was commissioned into the Coldstream Guards in 1890, promoted Lieutenant on 1 July 1896, and Captain on 1 April 1899. He served twice with his regiment in the Second Boer War, the second time from April 1902 when he was in command of reinforcements of 250 officers and men. They left Southampton in the troopship ''Dilwara'' on 15 April, arriving in South Africa the following month. He retired from the army in 1907, although he returned to service in the First World War as a staff officer. He was promoted Major in 1915.
