William Carter (actor)
William George Carter (1902–1952) was an Australian actor whose early acting career was in silent films. Birth and education Carter was born in Albury, New South Wales, the only child of Alice May (née Gardiner) and William Thomas Carter. He attended Newington College commencing aged 12 in 1913 and under the headship of the Rev Dr Charles Prescott. ''Those Who Love'' He worked in collaboration with sisters Paulette McDonagh, Phyllis McDonagh and Marie Lorraine on ''Those Who Love'', a 1926 silent film. The movie is about the son of a knight, Barry Manton played by Carter, who falls in love with a dancer. The father disapproves and bribes the dancer to disappear. Hurt, Barry leaves home and becomes a labourer on the docks. He meets poor but honest Lola Quayle, played by Marie Lorraine in a cabaret and offers her a place to live after she resists the advances of a pub owner. William Carter (St Pancras South West MP)
William Carter (12 August 1867 – 18 August 1940) was a British Labour Party politician. Having started work as a boy in a coal mine, Carter later worked on the railways, becoming an official in the National Union of Railwaymen. Carter was a justice of the peace for the County of London, and a member of St Pancras Borough Council, serving as Mayor of St Pancras in 1919–20. He also sat as a member of the Metropolitan Water Board. William Harding Carter
William Giles Harding Carter (November 19, 1851 – May 24, 1925) was a US Cavalry officer who served during the American Civil War, Spanish–American War and World War I. He also took part in the Indian Wars seeing extensive service against the Apache and Comanche in Arizona being awarded the Medal of Honor against the Apache during the Comanche Campaign on August 30, 1881. A strong advocate of reform in the United States Army during the late 19th and early 20th centuries, Carter and Secretary of War Elihu Root are credited with the creation of the U.S. Army War College and helped pass the General Staff Act of 1903 through the United States Congress, replacing the office of commanding general with a chief of staff and a more efficient reorganization of military staff structure. William Gordon Carter (born December 2, 1937) is a Canadian former professional ice hockey forward who played 16 games in the National Hockey League for the Montreal Canadiens and Boston Bruins between 1957 and 1962. The rest of his career, which lasted from 1956 to 1969, was spent in various minor leagues. William John Carter (21 January 1841 – 18 November 1888) was an English cricketer. Carter was a right-handed batsman who bowled right-arm fast. He was born at Kennington, Surrey. Carter made his first-class debut for Surrey against the Kent in 1871 at The Oval. He made six further first-class appearances for the county, the last of which came against Gloucestershire in 1874. In his seven first-class matches for the county, he scored 77 runs at an average of 8.55, with a high score of 21 not out. With the ball, he took 4 wickets at a bowling average of 10.25, with best figures of 2/15. He also made a single first-class appearance in 1874 for a United South of England Eleven against Yorkshire at Great Horton Road, Bradford. The Most Reverend William Marlborough Carter, (1850–1941) was an Anglican bishop and archbishop in South Africa. Family and education Dr Carter was born on 11 July 1850, the son of the Rev. William Adolphus Carter (1815-1901), and nephew of the Rev. Canon T. T. Carter. He was educated at Eton and Pembroke College, Oxford. He was married to Hester Marion Rose, C.B.E.(1867-1944) in London in 1904. He died on 14 Feb 1941 at Bear Ash, Twyford, Berkshire, and was buried at Eton College. William Hodding Carter III (born April 7, 1935) is an American journalist and politician. He was Assistant Secretary of State for Public Affairs in the Jimmy Carter administration. Life and career Carter was born in New Orleans to journalist and publisher William Hodding Carter, II (1907–1972), and the former Betty Werlein (1910–2000). He grew up in Greenville, Mississippi, a Mississippi River delta city which is the seat of Washington County, Mississippi. Carter attended Greenville High School before transferring to Phillips Exeter Academy in New Hampshire. He ultimately returned to Greenville and graduated in 1953. He then attended Princeton University, from which he graduated ''summa cum laude'' in 1957. That same year, he married the former Margaret Ainsworth. William Edward Carter (28 February 1900 – 24 August 1969), known as Ted Carter, was a publican and member of the Queensland Legislative Assembly. Biography Carter was born in 1900 in Mount Morgan, Queensland, to parents Joseph Frederick Carter and his wife Clara Jane (''née'' Vickers). He attended state schools in Mount Morgan and Red Hill and, from 1916 until he entered politics, he worked for Queensland Rail. Carter married Margaret McNae on 9 March 1927. Carter won the state seat of Fitzroy in 1929 for the CPNP. He did not contest the seat in the 1932 Queensland state election. After his retirement from politics, Carter managed a hotel in Sydney from 1941 until 1967. He died in Rosalie, Queensland Rosalie is a former suburb of Brisbane, Queensland, Australia.
