William Burns (Scottish Historian)
William Burns (1809–1876) was a Scottish lawyer, early Chartist, historian and nationalist who was one of the prime movers in the campaign to create the Wallace Monument. Life He was born in Saltcoats on 4 December 1809 the son of a chemical manufacturer. He served an apprenticeship as a lawyer in Saltcoats and moved to Glasgow in the early 1840s. In 1845 he was practising at 29 St Vincent Place in the city centre, living at 296 Greenhill Place. In 1851 Rev Charles Rogers began a campaign to create a national monument to William Wallace. Burns became involved deeply in this campaign and took over as Secretary on Roger's resignation. Together with Rogers they commissioned John Thomas Rochead to design the monument. In 1861 he was present at the laying of the foundation stone of the Wallace Monument. He was also present at the official opening in 1869. William Burns (1767–1790) was the second youngest brother of the poet Robert Burns and the third son born to William Burness and Agnes Broun. William was born at Mount Oliphant Farm on the Doonholm Estate near Alloway, about three miles from Ayr, on the 12 July 1769. He was christened circa 6 August 1767 by the Rev. Rev William Dalrymple of Ayr parish and kirk. Life and background His siblings were Robert (b. 25 January 1759); Gilbert (b. 28 September 1760); Agnes (b. 30 September 1762); Annabella (b. 14 November 1764); John (b. 12 July 1769); Isabella (b. 27 July 1771). William Burns was a 22-year-old African-American man who was lynched on October 6, 1907, in Cumberland, Maryland Cumberland is a U.S. city in and the county seat of Allegany County, Maryland. William Wallace Burns
William Wallace Burns (September 3, 1825 – April 19, 1892) was a career American soldier who served in the Union Army during the American Civil War, reaching the rank of brigadier general in the volunteer army. He was among the commanders of the famed Philadelphia Brigade. Birth and early years Burns was born in Coshocton, Ohio, son of future U.S. congressman Joseph Burns and a distant relative of George Washington through his mother's family. He entered the United States Military Academy in 1842 and graduated 28th in his class in 1847, a year late due to failing English as a freshman. He accepted a commission as a second lieutenant in the infantry and served in the Mexican–American War without seeing any combat. William Chalmers Burns (宾惠廉, 1 April 1815 – 4 April 1868) was a Scottish Evangelist and Missionary to China with the English Presbyterian Mission who originated from Kilsyth, North Lanarkshire. Will Burns (born 24 June 1990 in Weston-Super-Mare) is a British Racing driver, racing driver, currently competing in the British GT series with Century Motorsports. Racing career Early career Burns began his car racing career in 2011 running in the Ginetta Challenge. He spent three seasons in the series finishing the 2013 season as the runner-up. Near the end of the 2013 season, he joined the BTCC supporting Ginetta GT Supercup running in the secondary G50 class for seven races with Academy Motorsport. Burns moved up to the primary class in the Ginetta GT Supercup for 2014 remaining with Academy Motorsport, he completed his first full season 7th in points.
