William Burke (pirate)
William Burke (died 1699, first name occasionally Thomas, last name occasionally Burk, Burt, Bourck, Burch, or Burcke) was an Irish pirate and trader active in the Caribbean and near Newfoundland, best known for aiding William Kidd. History Burke had been active through early 1699 as a pirate off Newfoundland in his 140-man, 24-gun ship ''Marigold''. He was known to colonial governors as "very strong, and said to have a good ship". After menacing the Newfoundland fishing fleets he sailed to the Caribbean, trading slaves between Barbados and Curacao. In May 1699 he visited Governor Lorentz of St. Thomas offering to fence goods from William Kidd, who had been in the area to sell off his remaining plunder and sell or replace his leaking ship ''Quedagh Merchant'' (which Kidd had renamed ''Adventure Prize''). William Burke-White
William Burke-White is an American law professor and policy advisor. He was the Inaugural Director of Perry World House, an interdisciplinary global policy research institute at the University of Pennsylvania. Education He graduated from Harvard in 1998 with an A.B. in Russian and American History and Literature and obtained a M.Phil. in international relations at Cambridge in 1999. Burke-White earned a J.D. at the Harvard Law School in 2002 and returned to Cambridge as a Fulbright Scholar where he completed his Ph.D. in international relations in 2006. Career From 2003–05 he taught at Princeton University and served as special assistant to Anne-Marie Slaughter. In 2005, Burke-White became an assistant professor at the University of Pennsylvania Law School. Willie Burke
Willie Burke (born 4 September 1972 in Dublin) is an Irish former footballer. He made his League of Ireland debut for Shamrock Rovers at home to Waterford United at the RDS Arena on 8 November 1992. In July 1993 he was part of a Rovers side that won an International Football Festival in Manchester. In his second season at the club he won the League scoring once in 30 league appearances as well as making two appearances in European competition. He signed for St Patrick's Athletic F.C. in 1995 where he stayed for eight seasons winning a further 3 League titles. William Burke, Lord Of Bealatury
William Burke, Lord of Bealatury (fl. 1580s-1616) was an Irish noble and soldier who served in Spain, and later in Ireland during the Nine Years' War. Career Burke was a member of the Burke family of Clanricarde, in what is now County Galway. He was one of five brothers who left Ireland to enrol in Spanish service in the late 1580s. The five were sons of John na Seamar Burke (died 1583) and nephews of Ulick Burke, 3rd Earl of Clanricarde (died 1601). The eldest of the family was Redmond Burke, Baron Leitrim. They were in Ireland in time to participate in the Nine Years' War (Ireland). William Burke, 7th Earl Of Clanricarde
William Burke, 7th Earl of Clanricarde, PC (Ire) (; ; died 1687), was an Irish peer who fought in his youth together with his brother Richard, 6th Earl of Clanricarde under their cousin, Ulick Burke, 1st Marquess of Clanricarde against the Parliamentarians in the Cromwellian conquest of Ireland. He succeeded his brother as the 7th Earl in 1666. Birth and origins William was a younger son of Sir William Burke and his wife Joan. His father was the third son of Ulick Burke, 3rd Earl of Clanricarde. William's mother was a daughter of Dermot O'Shaugnessy of Gort. William mac Ulick Burke, 4th Clanricarde or Mac William Uachtar (Upper Mac William) (; ; died 1430) was an Irish chieftain and noble. William succeeded his elder brother, Ulick an Fhiona Burke, as chieftain. He was later succeeded by his nephew, Ulick;s son, Ulick Ruadh Burke, 5th Clanricarde. William's era is one of the more obscure reigns of a Clanricarde. The Annals of the Four Masters have only two references to his term: * ''1424.
