	Billy Burke (criminal) William "Billy the Kid" Burke was a gangster in the 19th century. Burke was born to an Irish-American family in Massachusetts on March 18, 1858. By 1880 his mother had been widowed and the family had moved to Chicago and Burke had become a professional criminal. His brother, John “Fat Man” Burke, claimed he was a plumber but he also worked as a professional criminal. Two of Burke's younger brothers held positions in the telegraph office. This proved useful to him later when he needed access to messages sent by private detectives, such as the Pinkertons. Burke met Sophie Lyons and they became criminal partners in the early 1880s. Lyons was an adept pickpocket and Burke's specialty was theft by subterfuge, or sneak thievery. (A sneak thief worked by distracting his victims in order to rob them without using violence.) Burke (born 1943) is an American photographer and educator known for his 20 years of documentary photography in Vietnam and neighboring countries, detailing the effects of war. Biography William M. Burke was born in 1943 in Derby, Connecticut. In 1966, he received a B.A. degree in Art History from Middlebury College. He continued studies at Rhode Island School of Design (RISD), and received a B.F.A degree in 1968 and a MFA degree in 1970, while studying with photographer Harry Callahan. 	Billy Burke (golfer) William John Burke, Burkauskas (polonized Burkowski) (December 14, 1902 – April 19, 1972) was a prominent Lithuanian-American professional golfer of the 1920s and 1930s. Burke was born in Naugatuck, Connecticut. His greatest season was 1931, when he won the U.S. Open, reached the semi-finals of the PGA Championship, and won four events on the professional circuit, plus appeared on the Ryder Cup team where he was undefeated in two matches. He was also selected for the 1933 Ryder Cup team but not before some agitation by Gene Sarazen was done on his behalf. Burke won his only match in the 1933 competition.
