William Brooks, 2nd Baron Crawshaw DL (16 October 1853 – 19 January 1929) was a British peer. He was the eldest son of Thomas Brooks, 1st Baron Crawshaw and married Mary Ethel Hicks-Beach (1853 -1 October 1914) on 12 October 1882 daughter of Sir Michael Hicks Hicks Beach, 8th Baronet (1809–1854). Thomas Brooks, 1st Baron Crawshaw
Thomas Brooks, 1st Baron Crawshaw, (15 May 1825 – 5 February 1908) was a British peer. Brooks was the son of John Brooks, a quarry owner, of Crawshaw Hall, Lancashire. He served as High Sheriff of Lancashire in 1884. In 1891 he was created a Baronet, of Crawshaw Hall in the County of Lancaster, and in 1892 he was raised to the peerage as Baron Crawshaw, of Crawshaw in the County of Lancaster. Lord Crawshaw died in February 1908, aged 82, and was succeeded in his titles by his son William Brooks, 2nd Baron Crawshaw. His younger son, Marshall, was a skilled sportsman, having been British Amateur High Jump champion in 1874 and 1876, world record holder for the High Jump on three occasions, as well as having represented England in rugby union in 1874. Sir Michael Hicks Beach, 8th Baronet
Sir Michael Hicks Hicks-Beach, 8th Baronet DL (25 October 1809 – 22 November 1854) was a British Conservative Party MP and High Sheriff. He was appointed High Sheriff of Gloucestershire for 1840 and then returned as Member of Parliament (MP) for East Gloucestershire from January 1854 until his death in November of the same year. He was commissioned as Lieutenant-Colonel of the Royal North Gloucestershire Militia in 1844 and commanded it as Lt-Col Commandant from 1852 until his death.''Army List'', various dates. A coronet is a small crown consisting of ornaments fixed on a metal ring. A coronet differs from other kinds of crowns in that a coronet never has arches, and from a tiara in that a coronet completely encircles the head, while a tiara does not. Baron is a rank of nobility or title of honour, often hereditary, in various European countries, either current or historical. The female equivalent is baroness. Baron Crawshaw, of Crawshaw in the County Palatine of Lancaster and of Whatton in the County of Leicester is a title in the Peerage of the United Kingdom. It was created on 25 August 1892 for Sir Thomas Brooks, 1st Baronet. He notably served as High Sheriff of Lancashire in 1884. Brooks had already been created a baronet in the Baronetage of the United Kingdom, of Crawshaw Hall and Whatton House, on 9 February 1891. the titles are held by his great-grandson, the fifth Baron, who succeeded his elder brother in 1997.
