Sir William Brandon (died 1491), of Wangford in Suffolk, was an English landowner, administrator, soldier, courtier and politician.Richardson, 2011a, p. 297 His grandson was Charles Brandon, 1st Duke of Suffolk, a courtier and close friend of King Henry VIII. Origins Born before 1430, he was probably the son of Robert Brandon, collector of customs at King’s Lynn and Great Yarmouth, in Norfolk, who served as a Member of Parliament for Bishop's Lynn in 1421. Career He became a retainer of the local magnates, the Dukes of Norfolk, rising to be a senior member of the council of John de Mowbray, 4th Duke of Norfolk by 1476. In 1454-55 he acted as escheator for Norfolk and Suffolk, and in 1468 sat as a Member of Parliament for New Shoreham. In 1469 he was present at the Siege of Caister Castle, and in 1471 as a member of the victorious Yorkist forces he was knighted by King Edward IV on the field at the Battle of Tewkesbury. Sir William Brandon (1456 – 22 August 1485) of Soham, Cambridgeshire was Henry Tudor's standard-bearer at the Battle of Bosworth, where he was killed by King Richard III. He was the father of Charles Brandon, 1st Duke of Suffolk. Biography William was the son of Sir William Brandon of Wangford, Suffolk, and of Soham, Cambridgeshire, Knight Marshal of Marshalsea (1425 – 4 March 1491) and wife (married 1462) Elizabeth Wingfield (died 28 April 1496/1497). He had numerous siblings, including Sir Thomas Brandon, who fought with him at the Battle of Bosworth and later became a leading courtier and Master of the Horse of Henry VII. In 1478 Sir John Paston wrote that Brandon had been arrested for an attempted rape: "yonge William Brandon is in warde and arestyd ffor thatt he scholde have fforce ravysshyd and swyvyd an olde jentylwoman ..." William Brandon (author)
William Edward Brandon (September 21, 1914 – April 11, 2002) was an American writer and historian best known for his work about Native Americans and the American West. Early life Brandon was born in Kokomo, Indiana, but spent his childhood in various locales, including the Yucatán and New Mexico. He held a brief job in a steel mill, before he began working as a professional writer in 1938, although this was interrupted by his service as a photographer for the United States Army Air Forces in the Pacific Theater during World War II. Works Brandon published a variety of short fiction, essays, and poetry, which appeared initially in pulp magazines such as '' Black Mask'', and '' Detective Fiction Weekly'', but subsequently in prominent publications such as '' Esquire'', ''The Atlantic Monthly'', ''The Paris Review'', ''The Saturday Evening Post'', and ''Reader's Digest.'' William Brandon (September 23, 1815 – July 31, 1891) was a member of the Wisconsin State Assembly during the 1862 and 1865 sessions. Brandon was born in Paris, Kentucky, the son of Joseph Brandon and Margaret Kelly Brandon. In Wisconsin, he was a Republican and was affiliated with the National Union Party during his second term. His address was in what is now officially Smelser, Wisconsin. Ocha la Rocha is an American alternative rock band based in Atlanta, Georgia, United States. In 2005, their first album, ''Ocha Lives,'' was recorded and highlights the band's original rock-country sound. Johnny la Rocha's voice and song-writing has become a staple in the south. New Shoreham (UK Parliament Constituency)
New Shoreham, sometimes simply called Shoreham, was a parliamentary borough centred on the town of Shoreham-by-Sea in what is now West Sussex. It returned two Members of Parliament (MPs) to the House of Commons of England from 1295 to 1707, then to the House of Commons of Great Britain until 1800, and finally to the House of Commons of the Parliament of the United Kingdom from 1801 until it was abolished by the Redistribution of Seats Act 1885, with effect from the 1885 general election.
