William Bossons
William Horace Bossons (April 1901 – 1970) was a footballer who played as a goalkeeper. He played four matches in the Football League Third Division North for Nelson in the 1927–28 season. Career Bossons started his playing career with Stockport County in March 1925. Eight months later, he joined Macclesfield Town, where he stayed for almost two seasons. In September 1927, Bossons was signed by Football League Third Division North outfit Nelson after a successful trial period. He made his league debut for the club on 8 October 1927 in the 3–3 draw with Chesterfield at Seedhill. He went on to make a further three league appearances for Nelson, conceding a total of 14 goals in his four matches. Bossons played his last game for Nelson on 10 December 1927, in the 2–4 defeat away at Wigan Borough. Newcastle-under-Lyme ( RP: , ) is a market town and the administrative centre of the Borough of Newcastle-under-Lyme in Staffordshire, England. Seedhill Football Ground
The Seedhill Football Ground was a football stadium in Nelson, Lancashire. It was the home of various incarnations of current North West Counties League Division One side Nelson F.C. from 1889, when the Burnley Express reported an opening senior fixture played against Burnley on March 16th 1889 (Lost 0-6), until 1971. During their tenure at Seedhill, Nelson were members of the English Football League between 1921 and 1931. Nelson's last game at Seedhill was a Lancashire Combination fixture on Sunday 28 March 1971 against local rivals, Clitheroe F.C. Local newspaper, the Nelson Leader, reported that a crowd of over a thousand gathered to see Clitheroe beaten by five goals to three in what was not only the last game but also the first Sunday game at the stadium. Nelson then moved to their current Victoria Park ground on Lomeshaye Holme for the start of the 1971–72 season. Non-League football describes football leagues played outside the top leagues of a country. Usually, it describes leagues which are not fully professional. The term is primarily used for football in England, where it is specifically used to describe all football played at levels below those of the Premier League (20 clubs) and the three divisions of the English Football League (EFL; 72 clubs). Currently, a non-League team would be any club playing in the National League or below that level. Typically, non-League clubs are either semi-professional or amateur in status, although the majority of clubs in the National League are fully professional, some of which are former EFL clubs who have suffered relegation.
