William Black (Ontario Politician)
William David Black (October 17, 1867 – October 24, 1944) was speaker of the Legislature of Ontario in 1927-1929 and served as Conservative MLA for Addington from 1911 to 1943. He was born in Dundas County, Ontario, the son of William Black. After leaving the family farm, Black worked as a trackman for the Canadian Pacific Railway. In 1892, he married Georgia R. Griffith. Black moved to Parham in 1894, where he operated a general store and worked as a contractor. He was also involved in lumbering and contracting in the Temagami region. Edmund Wyly Grier
Sir Edmund Wyly Grier DCL (also known as E. Wyly Grier) (November 26, 1862 – December 7, 1957) was an Australian born Canadian portrait painter. Career Grier first came to Canada with his parents in 1876 and attended Upper Canada College but when he graduated, he and his parents went back to England so that he could study at the Slade School of Art in London.A Dictionary of Canadian Artists, volumes 1-8 by Colin S. A justice of the peace (JP) is a judicial officer of a lower or ''puisne'' court, elected or appointed by means of a commission ( letters patent) to keep the peace. In past centuries the term commissioner of the peace was often used with the same meaning. Temagami
Temagami, formerly spelled as Timagami, is a municipality in northeastern Ontario, Canada, in the Nipissing District with Lake Temagami at its heart. The Temagami region is known as ''n'Daki Menan'', the homeland of the area's First Nations community, most of whom are Anishinaabe (Ojibwe), living on Bear Island. The official name for this group is the Temagami First Nation. However, a larger group that includes these people, plus non-status residents and some non-residents is called the Teme-Augama Anishnabai. Some of the main tourist attractions within the community include old-growth red and white pine, Lake Temagami, Caribou Mountain, fishing, showings of Grey Owl from the 1930s, and over of canoe routes. Parham, Ontario
Parham, Ontario is located an hour north of Kingston, Ontario and two hours west of Canada's capital, Ottawa, Ontario. It is located in Central Frontenac Township, which includes other small towns such as Godfrey, Sharbot Lake, Tichborne, and Hartington. Parham's population is roughly 250, which classifies it as one of the smallest towns in the northern area. Parham has one general store, a post office and two churches, one Free Methodist church, and a United church. The fire hall is located beside the Parham Fair Grounds where the Parham Agricultural Fair is held annually. The fair involves 4-H members showing cattle and horses. There are also riding lawn mower races, livestock exhibitions and a palace with baking, crafts and produce.
