William Adams (cricketer, Born 1885)
William Adams (17 April 1885 – 6 April 1957) was an English first-class cricketer. He was a left-handed batsman who played first-class cricket for Northamptonshire. He was born in Steeple Claydon, Buckinghamshire and died in Ashton, Northamptonshire. Adams had represented Buckinghamshire on six occasions in the Minor Counties Championship from 1911 to 1913, making his debut as an opening order batsman but moving down the order upon several substandard batting performances. Adams did not play another cricket match until the 1920 season, when he made his County Championship debut at the age of 35 for Northamptonshire, batting extensively throughout the next two seasons, though the team would struggle for decent form in the two years in which he played. Following the close of the 1921 season, Adams spent five years out of the game, returning in an innings victory against Dublin University Cricket Club in 1926. Northamptonshire County Cricket Club
Northamptonshire County Cricket Club is one of eighteen first-class county clubs within the domestic cricket structure of England and Wales. It represents the historic county of Northamptonshire. Its limited overs team is called the Northants Steelbacks – a reference to the Northamptonshire Regiment which was formed in 1881. The name was supposedly a tribute to the soldiers' apparent indifference to the harsh discipline imposed by their officers. Founded in 1878, Northamptonshire (Northants) held minor status at first but was a prominent member of the early Minor Counties Championship during the 1890s. In 1905, the club joined the County Championship and was elevated to first-class status, since when the team have played in every top-level domestic cricket competition in England. Steeple Claydon is a village and civil parishes in England, civil parish in the Buckinghamshire (district), Buckinghamshire district of the ceremonial county of Buckinghamshire, England. Buckinghamshire County Cricket Club is one of twenty minor county clubs within the domestic cricket structure of England and Wales. It represents the historic county of Buckinghamshire. The team is currently a member of the Minor Counties Championship Eastern Division and plays in the MCCA Knockout Trophy. Dublin University Cricket Club
Dublin University Cricket Club is a cricket team in Ireland. There is evidence of cricket being played at the University before 1820 but the first record of a club dates from 1835. They currently play in the Leinster Senior League, and in the past had first-class status, and played against several sides that were touring England, including the Australians (twice), South Africans (three times) and West Indians (as late as 1923). History Their first first-class matches came in 1895 when they played home and away matches against Cambridge University, also playing at home against the MCC and away against Leicestershire. They would not play first-class cricket again until 1922 when they played Essex and four times against Northamptonshire between 1924 and 1926. Hampshire County Cricket Club is one of eighteen first-class county clubs within the domestic cricket structure of England and Wales. It represents the historic county of Hampshire. Hampshire teams formed by earlier organisations, principally the Hambledon Club, always had first-class status and the same applied to the county club when it was founded in 1863. Because of poor performances for several seasons until 1885, Hampshire then lost its status for nine seasons until it was invited into the County Championship in 1895, since when the team have played in every top-level domestic cricket competition in England.
