Willi Ostermann
Wilhelm "Willi" Ostermann (1 October 1876 – 6 August 1936) was a lyricist, composer and singer of carnival songs and songs about Cologne, primarily in the German dialect of Kölsch. The tune ''Homesick for Cologne'' is counted amongst his most famous pieces. In the year 1949, a monument was erected to commemorate the life and works of Willi Ostermann in the Seven Mountains' Nightingale Valley of Königswinter. Cologne Carnival
The Cologne Carnival (german: Kölner Karneval) is a carnival that takes place every year in Cologne, Germany. Traditionally, the "fifth season" (carnival season) is declared open at 11 minutes past 11 on the 11th of the 11th month November. The Carnival spirit is then temporarily suspended during the Advent and Christmas period, and picks up again in earnest after 6 January, Epiphany, in the New Year. The time of merrymaking in the streets is officially declared open at downtown square "Alter Markt" on the Thursday before the beginning of Lent. Street carnival, a week-long street festival, also called " the crazy days", takes place between Fat Thursday (') and Ash Wednesday ('). Colognian or Kölsch (; natively ''Kölsch Platt'') is a small set of very closely related dialects, or variants, of the Ripuarian group of dialects of the Central German group. These dialects are spoken in the area covered by the Archdiocese and former Electorate of Cologne reaching from Neuss in the north to just south of Bonn, west to Düren and east to Olpe in northwest Germany. Name In the Ripuarian dialects, ''"kölsch"'' is an adjective meaning "from Cologne" or "pertaining to Cologne", thus equivalent to ''"Colognian"''. Its nominalized forms (''ene Kölsche'', ''de Kölsche'' etc.) denote the inhabitants of Cologne. The word ''"Kölsch"'', without an article, refers to either the dialect or the local Kölsch beer. Siebengebirge
The (), occasionally Sieben Mountains or Seven Mountains, are a hill range of the German Central Uplands on the east bank of the Middle Rhine, southeast of Bonn. Description The area, located in the municipalities of Bad Honnef and Königswinter, consists of more than 40 hills. The hills are of ancient volcanic origin and came into being between 28 and 15 million years ago. Much of the territory covered by Sieben Hills belongs to the Sieben Hills Nature Park (''Naturpark Siebengebirge''), which is under environmental protection. The highest peak is the Ölberg at 460 metres above sea level. It is a popular tourist destination for hiking, because of its natural environment. Königswinter ( ksh, Köningkswinte; Low Franconian: ) is a town and summer resort in the Rhein-Sieg district, in North Rhine-Westphalia, Germany.
