Will Currie And The Country French
Will Currie & The Country French is a Canadian indie rock music group formed in 2006 in Waterloo. The band consists of singer and pianist Will Currie, guitarist Dan Beacock, drummer Aaron Mariash, and bassist Daniel MacPherson. Biography Will Currie & The Country French was originally conceived in early 2006 as a few songs were written in a small glass room in the basement of the Music Faculty at Wilfrid Laurier University. Currie later assembled a small troupe of fellow music students to form a piano pop band. They began to tour around southern Ontario, and in 2007 caught the attention of Jay Ferguson of Sloan, who said they were the best live band he had seen that year, and signed them to his Murderecords music label. Their debut EP, ''A Great Stage'', was released in early 2008 by Murderecords. They toured western Canada with Sloan in September 2008. Originally used to describe independent record labels, the term became associated with the music they produced and was initially used interchangeably with alternative rock or "Pop rock, guitar pop rock". One of the primary scenes of the movement was Dunedin, where Dunedin sound, a cultural scene based around a convergence of noise pop and jangle became popular among the city's University of Otago, large student population. Murderecords
Murderecords is an independent record label that releases the music of the Canadian rock band Sloan. Originally formed in 1992 to produce just the records of that band, it later released work of other bands including Eric's Trip, The Hardship Post, Al Tuck, Stinkin' Rich, Hip Club Groove, The Inbreds, Thrush Hermit, and The Super Friendz, and was Canada's best-known indie label in the 1990s. Later, the roster was stripped bare, and released Sloan albums exclusively for nearly a decade. In 2008, however, albums by Will Currie and the Country French and Pony Da Look were released by the label. Wilfrid Laurier University
Wilfrid Laurier University (commonly referred to as WLU or simply Laurier) is a public university in Ontario, Canada, with campuses in Waterloo, Brantford and Milton. ''Chart Attack'' was a Canadian online music publication. Formerly a monthly print magazine called ''Chart'', it was published from 1991 to 2009. While the web version appears to be available online, the domain is now used as a popular media outlet, similar to BuzzFeed, almost entirely excluding music. Jay Ferguson (Canadian Musician)
Jay Ferguson (born October 14, 1968) is a Canadian musician and a member of the rock band Sloan. He is the only member in Sloan who comes from Halifax, Nova Scotia. Biography When Ferguson was 12 years old, he was given a job at Ol'Dan's Records, a secondhand record store. Before joining Sloan, Ferguson was in a band with Chris Murphy from 1987 to 1990 called Kearney Lake Road. In 1991, Ferguson and Murphy started Sloan along with Patrick Pentland and Andrew Scott. Ferguson plays rhythm guitar and occasionally bass and drums. Sloan is a Canadian rock music, rock band based in Toronto and originally from Halifax Regional Municipality, Halifax, Nova Scotia. Sloan have released thirteen full-length albums and have received nine Juno Award nominations, winning one.
