Wilhelm Von Engerth
Wilhelm Freiherr von Engerth (26 May 1814 – 4 September 1884) was an Austrian architect and engineer, known for being the designer of the first practical mountain locomotive. For his services he was elevated in 1875 to the baronetcy. Life and work Wilhelm Engerth was born on 26 May 1814 at Pleß in Prussian Silesia (present-day Pszczyna, Silesian Voivodeship, Poland). From 1834 Engerth studied at Vienna - firstly architecture and then mechanical engineering - and then went to Galicia as an architect, where he was soon entrusted with a lot of work. He returned to Vienna in order to devote himself to engineering, became a teacher of mechanics at the ''Polytechnikum'', then professor of descriptive geometry and, in 1844, professor of mechanics and engineering principles at the Joanneum in Graz. Arlberg () is a massif between Vorarlberg and Tyrol in Austria. The highest peak is the Valluga at . Edouard Ritter von Engerth (13 May 1818 – 1897) was an Austrian historical portrait painter. Biography He was born at Pless, Prussian Silesia, and studied under Leopold Kupelwieser at the Academy of Fine Arts Vienna, where, in 1845, he obtained the grand prize and the imperial stipend attached to it. In 1854 he was appointed director of the Prague Academy; in 1865, professor at the Vienna Academy; in 1871, director of the Belvedere Gallery, and in 1874 rector of the Academy. He was made commander of the Order of Francis Joseph in 1867. Work His most celebrated picture is entitled “Seizure of King Manfred's Family After the Battle of Benevento” (Art Museum, Vienna). His painting entitled “The Victory of Prince Eugene at Zenta” is also highly esteemed.
