Wilhelm Dietzel
Wilhelm Dietzel is a German politician of the Christian Democratic Union (CDU) and former member of the German Bundestag. He was Hesse's Minister for Environment, Agriculture and Forestry from 1999 to 2009. Life Dietzel has been a member of the CDU since 1974. Dietzel was involved in local politics as a local councillor in Neudorf from 1972 to 1981, as a city councillor in Diemelstadt since 1977 and as a county councillor in the Waldeck-Frankenberg district from 1981 to 1989. From 10 November 1994 to 1999 he was a member of the German Bundestag. He was elected via the state list of the CDU in Hesse. His successor was Wolfgang Steiger. After the 1999 state elections in Hesse, Dietzel moved to the Hessian state government under Roland Koch on 7 April 1999 and became Hessian Minister for the Environment, Agriculture and Forestry, and since 5 April 2003 Minister for the Environment, Rural Areas and Consumer Protection. Bundestag
The Bundestag (, "Federal Diet") is the German federal parliament. It is the only federal representative body that is directly elected by the German people. It is comparable to the United States House of Representatives or the House of Commons of the United Kingdom. The Bundestag was established by Title III of the Basic Law for the Federal Republic of Germany (, ) in 1949 as one of the legislative bodies of Germany and thus it is the historical successor to the earlier Reichstag. 1994 German Federal Election
Federal elections were held in Germany on 16 October 1994 to elect the members of the 13th Bundestag. The CDU/CSU alliance led by Helmut Kohl remained the largest faction in parliament, with Kohl remaining Chancellor in a narrowly re-elected coalition with the Free Democratic Party (FDP). This elected Bundestag was the largest in history until 2017, numbering 672 members. Even though this election did not lead to a switch in government, it saw the election of many people to the Bundestag that would play an important role later. Future CDU leaders Friedrich Merz and Armin Laschet were first elected to the Bundestag in 1994, as were future cabinet ministers Norbert Röttgen and Peter Altmaier. West Germany is the colloquial term used to indicate the Federal Republic of Germany (FRG; german: Bundesrepublik Deutschland , BRD) between its formation on 23 May 1949 and the German reunification through the accession of East Germany on 3 October 1990.
