Wilfred Kigen
Wilfred Kibet Kigen (born 23 February 1975) is a Kenyan long distance runner who primarily competes in marathon races in Germany. His personal best for the distance is 2:07:33 hours, set in 2007. He is a three-time winner of the Frankfurt Marathon and won the Hamburg Marathon in 2010, after having finished as runner-up on three occasions. Career Hailing from Eldoret, Kenya, he had a childhood steeped in long-distance running – every day he would run 10 km to school as a child and his mother had been a successful athlete herself in the 1960s, winning prizes at track races in Uganda. Kigen was persuaded by Wilson Boit Kipketer (a world record holder in the steeplechase) to move to Ngong to focus on his running. It was through Boit Kipketer's suggestion that Kigen got his late start in competitive running at the age of 24. Rodgers Rop
Rodgers Rop (born 16 February 1976) is a long-distance runner from Kenya. In 2002, Rop won both the Boston Marathon and the New York Marathon. He joined an exclusive club of men who have won both races: Bill Rodgers, Alberto Salazar, Ibrahim Hussein, Joseph Chebet, Meb Keflezighi, and Geoffrey Mutai (see also List of winners of the Boston Marathon and List of winners of the New York City Marathon). Rop tried to defend his Boston and New York titles in 2003 but finished 7th and 2nd respectively. In 2006 he improved his personal best to 2:07:34, when he finished 6th at the London Marathon. In 2007 he won the Hamburg Marathon in 2:07:32, one second ahead of Wilfred Kigen, setting again a personal best. Like many other Kenyan athletes, Rop works as a police officer in the offseason. Hannover Marathon
The Hannover Marathon is an annual road running event featuring races over the marathon, half marathon and 10 km distance that is held in May in the city of Hannover, Germany. Over 15,000 people took part in the day's races at the 2011 edition of the event. The half marathon attracts the highest number of entries from the public (over 5000) while the marathon race typically features up to 2000 runners annually. The marathon race holds IAAF Silver Label status and it is part of the German Road Races group. The Düsseldorf Marathon is an annual road marathon in Düsseldorf, Germany in early May, first held in 2003. The generally flat course runs through parts of the city and alongside the banks of the Rhine. The race day also includes other events, such as a marathon road relay, and over 10,000 people participate annually. The race is a member of the Association of International Marathons and Distance Races (AIMS) and the group. It is sponsored by Metro Group, a large international retailer based in the same city. History Organised by Jan-Henning Winschermann (via rhein-marathon düsseldorf e.V.), the race was first held in 2003.
