Wild Boar (documentary)
''Wild Boar'' ( Dutch: Wild Zwijn) is a 2013 Dutch documentary directed by Willem Baptist. The film is a poetic and strongly stylized tale about the ambivalent relationship between humans and wild boars. The film was realised with support of the Dutch Cultural Media Fund and is part of project Doc25; a joint initiative by Dutch broadcasters AVRO, BOS, EO, IKON, NTR, VPRO. Wild Boar had its Dutch premiere at the Nederlands Film Festival in Utrecht and was shortlist nominated for a Gouden Kalf for Best Short Documentary at The Netherlands Film Festival. The film had its international premières in competition respectively at the renowned festivals Visions du Réel (Nyon, Switzerland), AFI Docs (Silver Spring, USA) and Hot Docs International Documentary Film Festival in Toronto. Willem Baptist (1979) is a Dutch filmmaker and documentary-director. His documentary '' I’m Never Afraid!'' (2010) won a Golden Gate Award at San Francisco International Film Festival, Documentary Short Grand Jury Prize at Atlanta Film Festival, and a Kinderkast Jury award non-fiction at Cinekid Festival. The Golden Calf ( nl, Gouden Kalf) is the award of the Netherlands Film Festival, which is held annually in Utrecht. The award has been presented since 1981, originally in six categories: Best Actor, Best Actress, Best Feature Film, Best Short Film, Culture Prize and Honourable mention. A Dutch documentary film is a documentary film made by a director of (partly) Dutch origin. Dutch documentary films are not necessarily bound to Dutch topics or locations in the Netherlands. History Before 1945 The first known Dutch documentary was made in 1916 by Johann Vierboom. The film ''Storm en noodweer in Nederland'' shows the 1916 flood disaster at the coasts of the Zuiderzee. ''Film Threat'' is an online film review publication, and earlier, a national magazine that focused primarily on independent film, although it also reviewed videos and DVDs of mainstream films, as well as Hollywood movies in theaters. Visions du Réel (Visions of Reality) is an internationally renowned documentary film festival held in April each year in Nyon, Switzerland. Established in 1969 as the Nyon International Documentary Film Festival, the event adopted its current name in 1995 and is the largest Swiss documentary festival. The Netherlands Film Festival ( nl, Nederlands Film Festival) is an annual film festival, held in September and October of each year in the city of Utrecht.
