Wilcox, Saskatchewan
Wilcox ( 2016 population: ) is a village in the Canadian province of Saskatchewan within the Rural Municipality of Bratt's Lake No. 129 and Census Division No. 6. It is approximately 41 kilometres (25 mi) south of the City of Regina. Wilcox is the home of the Athol Murray College of Notre Dame, a boarding school for students in grades 9-12. The village is also home to the Notre Dame Hounds ice hockey team in the Saskatchewan Junior Hockey League. History In 1902, the post office formed in the Provisional District of Assiniboia West of the North West Territories and a federal electoral district then named Qu'Appelle. Wilcox Rebellions
The Wilcox Rebellions were an armed rebellion in 1888, a revolt in 1889, and a counter-revolution in 1895, led by Robert William Wilcox against the promulgation of the Bayonet Constitution in 1888 and 1889, and against the overthrow of the monarchy in 1895. He was considered a royalist and dedicated to the monarchy of the Kingdom of Hawaii. Wilcox's revolts were part of the Hawaiian Rebellions. Wilcox Medical Center is part of Hawaii Pacific Health's network. One of Kauai island's three hospitals, Wilcox Medical Center provides Kauai residents with an imaging center, emergency department, and surgical center. The Wilcox Group is an important geologic group in the Gulf of Mexico Basin and surrounding onshore areas from Mexico and Texas to Louisiana and Alabama. The group ranges in age from Paleocene to Eocene and is in Texas subdivided into the Calvert Bluff, Simsboro and Hooper Formations, and in Alabama into the Nanafalia and Hatchetigbee Formations. History George Wilcox (3 October 1838 – 5 September 1917) was born in St Neots, Huntingdonshire, England, a son of master tailor and draper Joseph Wilcox, sen. The Wilcox, Crittenden Mill, also known as Wilcox, Crittenden Mill Historic District, is a property in Middletown, Connecticut that was listed on the National Register of Historic Places in 1986. It was the location of the Wilcox, Crittenden company, a marine hardware firm. The historic district listing included four contributing buildings and three other contributing sites. Buildings The mill complex consists of four surviving mill buildings, built between 1814 and 1917, and foundational remnants of others, as well as two brownstone dams. The Wilcox Formation is a geologic formation in Tennessee. It preserves fossils dating back to the Paleogene period. The first hydrocarbon discover in the formation occurred in 1928, onshore Texas. Subsequent field discoveries included the Seven Sisters Field, the Fandando Field , and in 1940 the Sheridan Field in Colorado County, Texas.
