An academy school in England is a state-funded school which is directly funded by the Department for Education and independent of local authority control. Wigston
Wigston, or Wigston Magna, is a town in Leicestershire, England, just south of Leicester on the A5199. It had a population of 32,321 in 2011. Geography Wigston is south of the city of Leicester, at the centre of Leicestershire and the East Midlands. Oadby is to the east, connected by the B582 road. To the west along the B582, or Blaby Road is South Wigston, (). Wigston is the largest of Leicester's satellite towns. The Grand Union Canal runs along a southern route below Wigston from Newton Harcourt , Kilby Bridge , and for several miles through South Wigston, Glen Parva , Blaby and on towards Leicester. Bushloe High School
Bushloe High School was a middle school with academy status located in Wigston, Leicestershire, England. Admissions It was a middle school, using the three-tier education system (invented in Leicestershire in the early 1960s as part of the ''Leicestershire Plan'', later adopted by some parts of the UK, notably Northumberland and Bedfordshire). Many middle schools in Leicestershire returned to the more traditional age ranges in 2009. Middle schools are classed as secondary schools. Wigston College, previously known as Guthlaxton College, is a coeducational sixth form located in Wigston Magna in the English county of Leicestershire. The college forms part of The Wigston Academies Trust, together with neighbouring Wigston Academy. History It was established as Guthlaxton Grammar School in 1954. The school became Guthlaxton College after comprehensive education was introduced to Leicestershire. The name Guthlaxton came from the Guthlaxton hundred of Leicestershire. In September 2015 the school changed its name to Wigston College to reflect the merger of neighbouring Bushloe High School and Abington Academy into Wigston Academy, a sister school on the same site and part of the same academy trust.
