Doreen Young Wickremasinghe
Doreen Wickremasinghe (''née'' Young;15 February 1907 – 29 May 2000) was a British leftist who became a prominent Communist politician in Sri Lanka and a Member of Parliament (MP). She was one of the handful of European Radicals in Sri Lanka. Early life and family Doreen Wickremasinghe was the daughter of two British 'ethical Socialists'. While a student in London in the 1920s, she became involved in the Indian Independence League and carried out other anti-imperialist work. Here she met Dr S. A. Wickramasinghe, a radical Sri Lankan moving in Communist and radical circles while a post-graduate student in London. Dr Wickremasinghe offered to find her a job in Sri Lanka. Don Martino de Zilva Wickremasinghe (1865–1937) was an epigraphist and archaeologist of Sri Lanka. He studied at Richmond College, Galle. Subsequently, he worked as an assistant to H. C. P. Bell and served as the epigraphist to the Ceylon Government. He became archaeological commissioner after Bell, preceding Senarath Paranavitana in that position. Lakshman Wickremasinghe (25 March 1927 – 23 October 1983) was one of the youngest bishops in the Anglican Communion and a human rights activist. Early life and education Born on 25 March 1927, he was the third son of Cyril Wickremesinghe of the Ceylon Civil Service and Esme Goonewardene. One of his brothers was the press baron, Esmond Wickramasinghe. Maithree Wickremesinghe (born 11 August 1964) is a Sri Lankan academic, writer, and professor of English at the University of Kelaniya. She specializes in gender and women's studies. Wickremasinghe B. Rajaguru (born 31 August 1938) was the 25th Inspector General of the Sri Lanka Police (IGP) (1995–1998). Rajaguru attended St. Anthony's College, Kandy. In 1993 he was forcibly retired at the age of 55 but following the election of the People's Alliance government at the 1994 parliamentary elections they granted the option for senior police officers who had faced potential political victimisation to appeal and request to be re-instated with back-wages. Jagath Wickramasinghe ( si, ජගත් වික්රමසිංහ; born 10 April 1966) is a Sri Lankan musician. He is the current Chairman of Sri Lanka Broadcasting Corporation. Wickramasinghe pursued a career as an engineer, but later decided to become a musician like his parents. His career took off after his songs were played on stations owned by the Sri Lanka Broadcasting Corporation. He is one of the first three judges on ''Sirasa Superstar'' for season 1 to 3.
