Enos Regnet Wicher
Enos Regnet Wicher was a professor of physics at Columbia University. He had been married to Rae Kidd, future star of the 1938 nudist movie "The Unashamed," while both were students at the University of Wisconsin 1935-37. During World War II he worked in the Wave Propagation Group at Columbia's Division of War Research and was alleged to have spied for Soviet intelligence with code name "Keen" (also "Kin").Venona: Decoding Soviet Espionage in America, by John Earl Haynes, Harvey Klehrp.198/ref> He was married to Maria Wicher and the stepfather of Flora Wovschin, the most active Soviet spy revealed in the Venona project. Vasily Ivanovich Berkov (Russian: Василий Иванович Берков) (Dutch: Wicher Berkhoff) (21 August 1794 in Vriezenveen, Netherlands – 5 April 1870 in Saint Petersburg, Russia) was a Russian shipbuilder and from 1829-1870 Director of the Admiralty Shipyard of Saint Petersburg, possibly in the rank of Counter-Admiral.According to Polovtsov (1896-1918), Berkov was "Head of the City Wharfs in Saint Petersburg (начальник с.-петербургской городской верфи)". The biography ends in 1840. Wicher-class Destroyer
The ''Wicher''-class destroyers were a series of destroyers that served in the Polish Navy during World War II. Two ships of this class were built for the Second Polish Republic by Chantiers Navals Français during the late 1920s. They were modified versions of the s built for the French Navy. History After the World War I, Great War, Poland's shoreline was very short (only ) and there was no need to create a large naval force. Initially consisting merely of four naval trawlers and two Monitor (warship), monitors — all inherited from the ''Kaiserliche Marine'' — in 1924, the Polish Navy was to start the construction of nine submarines. As Poland's greatest possible enemy at that time was perceived to be the Soviet Union, their only task would be to secure supply convoys from France in case of a war. } ORP ''Wicher'', the lead ship of the , was a Polish Navy destroyer. She saw combat in the Invasion of Poland, which began World War II in Europe. She was the flagship of the Polish Navy, sunk by German bombers on 3 September 1939. Pre-war history The ship was built at Ateliers et Chantiers Navals Français, Blainville-sur-Orne, near Caen and construction took 4 years, almost two more than initially planned. The steam turbines were built by Ateliers et Chantiers de la Loire in St. Nazaire, while the armament was mounted in the French Marine arsenal in Cherbourg. The ship was launched on 10 July 1928, but it was not until 8 July 1930, when she was finally commissioned by the Polish Navy in Cherbourg harbour. ORP ''Wicher'' () was a Project 30bis destroyer, transferred to the People's Republic of Poland from the Soviet Union in 1958. She was built by the Zhdanov shipyard in Leningrad and originally commissioned into the Soviet Baltic Fleet as the ''Skoryy'' ("Rapid") in 1951, and transferred to Poland in 1958 together with a second ship, . The ship was decommissioned in 1975, and scrapped. One of the 130 mm guns is preserved in the Polish Navy Museum in Gdynia. De Wicher
De Wicher is a drainage mill near the village of Kalenberg, Overijssel, Kalenberg, Overijssel, Netherlands. It is a hollow post windmill of the type called ''spinnenkop'' by the Dutch. The mill is in working order and used to drain the reed beds during winter to improve accessibility for thatching, reed cutters. History The predecessor of the current mill was the last windmill in the current De Weerribben-Wieden National Park. It was dismantled in 1942. By 1980 a foundation called ''Vrienden van de Weerribben'' got the idea of rebuilding this mill. The idea was taken up by Staatsbosbeheer (English: State Forest Management) and by 1982 the construction of the new mill was finished.
