Whitcliffe Mount School
Whitcliffe Mount School is a mixed secondary school located in Cleckheaton, West Yorkshire, England. History It was established as Cleckheaton Secondary School in 1908 in temporary premises on Brooke Street. The school moved to its current location in the town in 1910 and was renamed Cleckheaton Secondary and Technical School. Under the Education Act 1944 the school became Whitcliffe Mount Grammar School, and when the school became comprehensive in 1973 it was renamed Whitcliffe Mount School. Previously a voluntary controlled school administered by Kirklees Metropolitan Borough Council, in September 2022 Whitcliffe Mount School converted to academy status. Wendy Holden (born 1965)
Wendy Holden (born 12 June 1965) is a best-selling British novelist. Holden was born and raised in Cleckheaton, West Riding of Yorkshire. She attended Whitcliffe Mount School, and read English at Girton College, Cambridge, graduating from Cambridge University in the mid-1980s. Holden moved to London where she found work in the magazine business, eventually working for ''The Diplomat'' monthly, where she became an editor. From there, she moved on to ''The Sunday Times''. One of her responsibilities at the title was ghostwriting a column on behalf of socialite Tara Palmer-Tomkinson, an experience which Holden says influenced her first novel, ''Simply Divine''. ''Simply Divine'' was published in 1999, and Holden went on to write a series of novels, most of which were bestsellers, and which she happily describes as "chick lit" and "supermarket novels". Nigel Peter Weatherill FIMA, C.Math, FRAeS, C.Eng, C.Sci, FREng, DL is the former Vice-Chancellor and Chief Executive of Liverpool John Moores University. Jeffrey Butterfield (9 August 1929, Heckmondwike, Yorkshire – 30 April 2004, Wicken, Northamptonshire) was an England, British and Irish Lions, Yorkshire, Cleckheaton RUFC, Northampton and Barbarians Rugby player and businessman. Education and teaching career Butterfield was educated at Whitcliffe Mount Grammar School, Cleckheaton and Loughborough College, where he took a BSc. in Physical Education in 1951. Nigel Shaun Scrutton (born 2 April 1964) is a British biochemist and biotechnology innovator known for his work on enzyme catalysis, biophysics and synthetic biology. Paul Whitaker
Paul Robert Whitaker (born 28 June 1973) is a former English cricketer who played in England for Hampshire County Cricket Club and briefly in New Zealand for Central Districts. Cricket career Whitaker was born in June 1973 at Keighley, Yorkshire. He was educated at Grange Middle School and Whitcliffe Mount School. Whitaker played his early county cricket at Derbyshire, but was unable to force his way into their starting eleven and was released at the end of the 1993 season.
