Wexit
The Maverick Party, formerly known as Wexit Canada, is a Canadian federal political party. It advocates for constitutional changes to benefit, or the independence of, Western Canada, which includes British Columbia, Alberta, Saskatchewan, Manitoba, and the three territories. The party has its roots in Alberta separatism. The party ran candidates across the aforementioned provinces and three territories in the 2021 Canadian federal election, but did not run candidates in ridings where there was a strong possibility of electing a Liberal or New Democratic candidate. The party was led by former Conservative Party of Canada House leader Jay Hill since the resignation of the party's first leader, Peter Downing. Hill came out of retirement to act as interim leader of the Maverick Party until the election of a new leader. Peter Downing
Peter Downing is an Albertan separatist and the former leader of Wexit Canada, now known as the Maverick Party. Downing founded Wexit Canada in the aftermath of Justin Trudeau's re-election in the 2019 Canadian federal election. Downing is also a former member of the Canadian Armed Forces and the Royal Canadian Mounted Police, serving from 2006 to 2015. He received a conditional discharge for uttering threats against his ex-wife in 2009. Downing stepped aside as leader of Wexit Canada in June after recruiting interim leader and former Conservative Member of Parliament Jay Hill. Downing was previously a candidate for the Christian Heritage Party of Canada in the 2015 Canadian federal election. Jay Hill
Jay D. Hill (born December 27, 1952) is a Canadian politician who served as the Conservative Member of Parliament (MP) for the riding of Prince George—Peace River in British Columbia from 1993 to 2010. He served as Government House Leader in the House of Commons during his tenure (2008–2010). On July 21, 2010, Hill announced that he would be retiring at the May 2011 federal election. In October 2010, he announced he would retire on October 25, 2010. He recently served as the interim leader of the Maverick Party from 2020-2022. Allan Edward Joseph Kerpan (born 1954) is a Canadian politician. He is the current interim deputy leader of the Maverick Party, a right-wing Western Canadian separatist party. Life and career Kerpan was born on 9 December 1954 in Kenaston, Saskatchewan. He attended public school in Kenaston from 1960 to 1972, but attended St Peter's College, Muenster, during 1969–70. He was first elected to the House of Commons of Canada in the Moose Jaw—Lake Centre electoral district in the 1993 federal election. After realignment of riding boundaries, he was re-elected at the Blackstrap electoral district in the 1997 federal election.
