Westport, Washington
Westport is a city in Grays Harbor County, Washington, United States. It had a population of 2,213 at the 2020 census. Westport is located on a peninsula on the south side of the entrance to Grays Harbor from the Pacific Ocean. The public Westport Marina is the largest marina on the outer coast of the United States's Pacific Northwest. The marina is home to a large commercial fishing fleet and several recreational charter fishing vessels. A summer-only passenger ferry, discontinued in 2008, previously connected the town to Ocean Shores, across the mouth of the harbor to the north. It is home to the Washington Tuna Classic ,which happens each August. History Westport was officially incorporated on June 26, 1914. Names for the area in the past include Peterson's Point, Chehalis City, and Fort Chehalis. Ocean Shores, Washington
Ocean Shores is a city in Grays Harbor County, Washington, United States. The population was 6,715 at the 2020 census. History The City of Ocean Shores occupies the Point Brown peninsula on the Washington coast. Long before the arrival of European explorers and settlers, the peninsula was used by the various local tribes for trading and other purposes. The Chinook, Chehalis, and Quinault tribes used the area, as well as others that now make up the Quinault Indian Nation. On May 7, 1792, Captain Robert Gray sailed into the bay and named the area Bullfinch Harbor. Later, Captain George Vancouver renamed the area Grays Harbor after Captain Gray. The first established white settler on the Point was Matthew McGee, who settled in the early 1860s. He sold the southern portion of the peninsula to A.O. Grayland is a census-designated place (CDP) in Grays Harbor County, Washington, United States. The population was 953 at the 2010 census. Geography Grayland is located at in the southwestern corner of Grays Harbor County. To the west is the Pacific Ocean, to the north is the city of Westport and the entrance to Grays Harbor. To the south is Pacific County. According to the 2010 U.S. census, the CDP has a total area of 6.9 square miles (17.8 km2) that is almost entirely land. Westport, California
Westport (formerly Beall's Landing) is an unincorporated community in Mendocino County, California, United States. It is located on California State Route 1, near the Pacific Ocean, north of Fort Bragg, and at an elevation of . The first post office at Westport opened in 1879. Originally called Beall's Landing in honor of Samuel Beall, its first white settler, the place was renamed in 1877 by James T. Rodgers, who built a timber loading facility for the name to contrast with his home town of Eastport, Maine. As of July 2010, the population of Westport was 60. It has a community store with gas pumps, several inns, and, as of 2020, nine Airbnb or VRBO rental homes. Ocosta Elementary School
Ocosta Elementary School is a public elementary school in Westport, Washington, operated by the Ocosta School District. Part of the original elementary school was replaced in 2016 with a new facility featuring the first public tsunami refuge to be constructed in the United States, located atop the gym, above sea level. History The school district originally used a round building on the current campus built in 1967 and demolished in 2014. The elementary school was split from the junior/senior high school in the 1980s, and later expanded with new wings. On April 23, 2013, a $13.8 million bond issue was approved by 70 percent of voters to fund the construction of a new elementary school with modern features, including a tsunami shelter. The Chehalis people or Tsihalis are a native people of western Washington state in the United States. They should not be confused with the similarly named Chehalis First Nation of the Sts'Ailes people along the Harrison River in the Fraser Valley area of British Columbia.
